Optics / Optik:
The oscuro-coloured wrapper has a flawless surface and shows no visible veins. Like many maduro wrappers, it appears matt and slightly dusty. Nevertheless, it has greasy spots that makes the cigar look very attractive.

Das oscurofarbene Deckblatt weist eine makellose Oberfläche auf und zeigt keine sichtbaren Adern. Es wirkt wie viele Madurodeckblätter matt und leicht staubig. Dennoch weist es speckige Spotts auf und lässt die Zigarre sehr ansprechend erscheinen.

Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
In the cold smell I at fist recognize a sweet-malty smell, which reminds me of wholemeal bread. Furthermore I notice in the background smells of coffee, cocoa and some mild wood.

Im Kaltgeruch fällt mir zuerst ein süß-malziger Geruch auf, der mich an Vollkornbrot erinnert. Weiterhin finde ich im Hintergrund Gerüche nach Kaffee, Kakao und etwas mildem Holz.

Smoking trend / Rauchverlauf:
The first impression I notice is also the impression of fresh wholemeal bread. Slightly sweet, malty, spicy. Yet very creamy. Very complex.
From the middle, additional wood aromas come up, which do not remind me of any specific wood. I did not find the cedar wood aromas that are said to be associated with the cigar. But the malty-sweet aromas accompany the whole smoke. An aroma which I have not found with this intensity in any other cigar so far.
Towards the end, the strength of the beautifully balanced cigar increases noticeably and provides a worthy conclusion.

Der erste Eindruck, den ich wahrnehme ist ebenfalls der von frischem Vollkornbrot. Leicht süßlich, malzig, würzig. Trotzdem sehr cremig. Sehr komplex.

Ab der Mitte kommen zusätzlich Holzaromen auf, die mich jedoch an kein spezifisches Holz erinnern. Die der Zigarre nachgesagten Zedernholzaromen habe ich nicht gefunden. Dafür begleitet die malzig-süßen Aromen den gesamten Rauchverlauf. Ein Aroma, welches ich bisher in dieser Intensität bisher bei keiner anderen Zigarre gefunden habe.
Zum Ende hin nimmt die Stärke der schön ausgewogenen Zigarre merklich und sorgt für einen würdigen Abschluss.

Conclusion / Fazit:

A great cigar, but not one you should smoke on an empty stomach.

Eine tolle Zigarre, jedoch keine, die man auf nüchternen Magen rauchen sollte.

El Rey del Mundo - Choix du Roi ER BeLux (2017)

Optics / Optik:
The majestic cigar shows itself in a flawless colorado wrapper. As expected, it is of very fine structure and has no noticeable leaf veins.

Die imposante Zigarre zeigt sich in einem makellosen coloradofarbenen Deckblatt. Erwartungsgemäß ist es von sehr feiner Struktur und weist keine merklichen Blattadern auf.

Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
In the cold smell I first notice sweet aromas of cedar wood and milk chocolate. These are underlined by impressions of hazelnut. Furthermore a hidden fruitiness is noticeable, which reminds me of peaches.

Im Kaltgeruch fallen mir zuerst süßliche Aromen nach Zedernholz und Milchschokolade auf. Unterstrichen werden diese durch Eindrücke nach Haselnuss. Weiterhin ist eine hintergründige Fruchtigkeit feststellbar, die mich entfernt an Pfirsiche erinnert.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
Although the cigar is still relatively fresh, it has already developed magnificently. The first third is dominated by aromas of hazelnut and coffee. These are accompanied by the typical Cuban aroma duo of wood and leather. Very creamy smoke.

Obwohl die Zigarre noch relativ frisch ist, hat sie sich bereits jetzt prächtig entwickelt. Im ersten Drittel dominieren Aromen nach Haselnuss und Kaffee. Untermalt werden diese durch das typisch kubanische Aromenduo von Holz und Leder. Sehr cremiger Rauch.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
In the middle part, the creaminess decreases slightly and the aroma ratios are reversed. Here the wood and leather aromas dominate, accompanied by hazelnut and coffee. However, earthy aromas are also added here.

Im mittleren Bereich nimmt die Cremigkeit leicht ab und die Aromenverhältnisse kehren sich um. Hier dominieren die Holz- und Lederaromen, die von Haselnuss und Kaffee begleitetet werden. Ergänzend kommen hier aber noch erdige Aromen hinzu.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
In the last third, the hazelnut and coffee aromas disappear almost completely, while leather aromas dominate unchallenged. These are accompanied by earthy aromas that remind me of fresh garden soil.

Im Letzten Drittel verschwinden die Haselnuss- und Kaffeearomen fast vollständig, während Lederaromen unangefochten dominieren. Untermalt werden diese von erdigen Aromen, die mich an frische Gartenerde erinnern.

DBL Maduro - Derrame III boxpressed

RG: 54 (21,4 mm)
Length: 152 mm
Longfiller, Totalmente a mano

Optics / Optik:
Classic Maduro, greasy, clearly bruised at the head, slightly uneven surface. Except for the quadratic shape it is the same cigar as the Derrama III I've tested before.

Klassisches Maduro, speckig, am Kopf deutlich gequetscht, leicht ungleichmäßige Oberfläche. Bis auf die quadratische Form handelt es sich um die gleiche Zigarre wie die zuvor getestete Derrama III.

Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
Also by this cigar I perceive the cold smell as quite mild. Chocolate, malt, brown bread, very pleasant and round.

Auch bei dieser Zigarre nehme ich den Kaltgeruch als recht mild wahr. Schokolade, Malz, Schwarzbrot, sehr angenehm und rund.

Notes / Anmerkungen:
As with the classic Parejo, the draw is much too light for me.

Wie schon bei der klassischen Parejo, so ist mir auch hier der Zug viel zu leicht.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
The cigar starts with distinct wood notes, which are responsible for a slightly bitter base note. Very dry on the palate. A little black coffee provides some aromatic variety.

Die Zigarre startet mit deutlichen Holznoten, die für einen leicht bitteren Grundton. Dazu ausgesprochen trocken am Gaumen. Etwas schwarzer Kaffee sorgt für etwas aromatische Abwechslung.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
In the middle part, the wood notes diminish somewhat and the coffee aromas become more and more apparent.

Im mittleren Teil mildern sich die Holznoten etwas ab und die Kaffeearomen treten mehr und mehr zum Vorschein.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
Also with the boxpressed version the last third is the most delicious for me. Here, aromatic coffee forms the primary aroma, which is supplemented with hazelnut aromas. Additionally I perceive aromas of garden herbs.

Auch bei der boxpressed Variante ist das letzte Drittel für mich das leckerste. Hier bildet aromatischer Kaffee das Primäraroma, welches mit Haselnussaromen ergänzt wird. Zusätzlich nehme ich Aromen von Gartenkräutern wahr.

Smoking trend / Rauchverlauf:
The cigar developed a distinctly slanting burning, which did not even balance itself.

Die Zigarre entwickelte einen ausgeprägten Schiefbrand, der sich auch nicht von selbst wieder ausglich.

DBL Maduro - Derrame III

Optics / Optik:
Classic Maduro, greasy, a few unsightly leaf veins at the head, slightly uneven surface.
Klassisches Maduro, speckig, am Kopf ein paar unschöne Blattadern, leicht ungleichmäßige Oberfläche.

Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
Quite mild, chocolate, malt, brown bread, very pleasant and round.
Recht mild, Schokolade, Malz, Schwarzbrot, sehr angenehm und rund.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
Extremely mild in aroma. Hazelnut, coffee, hint of wood. Minimal acidity adds some spice.
Äußerst mild im Aroma. Haselnuss, Kaffee, Andeutung von Holz. Minimale Säure bring etwas Würze.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
In the middle range, the aromas are fortunately increasing, but without varying. Nevertheless, something like spiciness comes up here.
Im mittleren Bereich nehmen die Aromen erfreulicherweise zu, ohne jedoch zu variieren. Dennoch kommt hier so etwas wie Würze auf.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
Only towards the end do clear aromas develop. It is dominated by wood, light tannic acid, some black coffee.
Erst zum Ende hin entwickeln sich deutliche Aromen. Es dominiert Holz, leichte Gerbsäure, etwas schwarzer Kaffee.

Ash / Asche:
The resulting ash has only a low stability. Powdery consistency, white through and through. Partially flaky surface.
Die entstehende Asche weist nur eine geringe Stabilität auf. Pluderige Konsistenz, durch und durch weiß. Teilweise flockige Oberfläche.
