Top 5 of the year 2021

Even though it was very quiet on the blog this year, I still smoked no less good cigars. And although I remember a variety of cigars very fondly, 5 cigars stand for me again this year in highlight:

I particularly liked the Por Larrañaga- Montecarlos this year. A quite fresh cigar from 2019. Perhaps I like the cigar so much because it stands with its very slim format (RG 33) massively against the trend to ever thicker formats.

I also really liked another small cigar: Trinidad - Reyes from 2009. The Petit Corona was for me the perfect cigar for Sunday afternoon.

In 3rd place this year is a small pyramid, but very rarely seen: Punch - Petit Pyramide Edición Regional Sudáfrica. The cigar was the first and so far only South African ER released as part of the 2010 Olympics.

My fourth "Cigar of the Year" is also a Cuban cigar: Cohiba Línea 1492 - Siglo V. A classic Lonsdale that, here with a boxing date of Oct 2014, was already very round and balanced. Again, a slim cigar that is also seen rather rarely.

As the last cigar I would like to focus this year on a rather mild cigar from Honduras, which appeals to both beginners and experienced aficionados with its creamy flavors: Flor de Copan Classic - Corona. The cigar had lost sight of for quite some time, but this year rediscovered for me.

Auch wenn es in diesem Jahr sehr ruhig im Blog war, habe ich dennoch nicht minder gute Zigarren geraucht. Und obwohl ich mich an eine Vielzahl von Zigarren sehr gerne zurückerinnere, stechen auch dieses Jahr wieder 5 Zigarren für mich besonders hervor:

Besonders gut hat mir dieses Jahr die Por Larrañaga- Montecarlos gefallen. Ein recht frische Zigarre aus 2019. Vielleicht mag ich die Zigarre auch deswegen so gerne, weil sie mit ihrem sehr schlanken Format (RG 33) massiv dem Trend zu immer dickeren Formaten entgegen steht.

Ebenfalls sehr gut gefallen hat mir eine weitere kleine Zigarre: Trinidad - Reyes aus 2009. Die Petit Corona war für mich die perfekte Zigarre für den Sonntagnachmittag.

Auf Platz 3 findet sich dieses Jahr eine kleine Pyramide, die man jedoch sehr selten sieht: Punch - Petit Pyramide Edición Regional Sudáfrica. Die Zigarre wurde als erste und bisher einzige südafrikanische ER im Rahmen der olympischen Spiele im Jahre 2010 veröffentlicht.

Auch bei meiner vierten „Zigarre des Jahres“ handelt es sich um eine kubanische Zigarre: Cohiba Línea 1492 - Siglo V. Eine klassische Lonsdale, die, hier mit einem Boxing Date von Okt 2014, schon sehr rund und ausgewogen war. Wieder eine schlanke Zigarre, die man auch eher selten sieht.

Als letzte Zigarre möchte ich dieses Jahr eine eher milde Zigarre aus Honduras in den Fokus rücken, die mit ihren sahnigen Aromen sowohl Anfänger, als auch erfahrene Aficionados anspricht: Flor de Copan Classic - Corona. Die Zigarre hatte für längere Zeit aus dem Blick verloren, dieses Jahr aber für mich neu entdeckt.

Maria Mancini Postre de Banquete - No. 7 Corona

RG: 42 (16,7 mm)

Optics / Optik:
Like all cigars in the Postre de Banquete series, the Corona is a beautiful Maduro cigar. The wrapper has a fine structure and only a few small veins are visible. Despite the dark wrapper, an appealing baconiness can be seen, which underlines the positive impression once again.

Wie alle Zigarren der Postre de Banquete-Serie, handelt es sich auch bei der Corona um eine schöne Madurozigarre. Das Deckblatt ist von feiner Struktur und weist nur wenige, kleine Blattadern auf. Trotz des dunklen Deckblattes lässt sich eine ansprechende Speckigkeit ausmachen, die den positiven Eindruck noch einmal unterstreicht.

Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
At first, the cold smell reminds me of a Brazil cigar. A strong spice with a profound acidity creates an immediate appetite. The olfactory impression is underlined by a distinct chocolate note, which is only noticeable at second "view".

Im ersten Moment erinnert mich der Kaltgeruch an eine Brasil-Zigarre. Eine kräftige Würze mit einer hintergründigen Säure machen direkt Appetit. Unterstrichen wird der Geruchseindruck von einer deutlichen Schokoladennote, die aber erst auf den zweiten "Blick" auffällt.

Smoking trend / Rauchverlauf:
The cigar starts strong aromatic-spicy. Like the cold smell, the overall aroma reminds me of brazilian tobacco. The typical spiciness and the underlying acidity contribute to this. I take some wood, mediterranean garden herbs, raw cocoa and black coffee. The beautiful creamy smoke underlines the complex aroma very harmoniously.
Although the aroma remains constant throughout the smoke, the cigar is never boring. At the same time it does not overtax and in my opinion can be enjoyed without any problems even by a beginner.

Die Zigarre startet kräftig aromatisch-würzig. Wie schon im Kaltgeruch erinnern mich das Gesamtaroma an brasilianischen Tabak. Hierzu trägt besonders die typische Würze und die hintergründige Säure bei. Ich nehme etwas Holz, mediterrane Gartenkräuter, Rohkakao und schwarzen Kaffee war. Der schöne cremige Rauch unterstreicht das komplexe Aroma sehr harmonisch.
Obwohl das Aroma über den gesamten Rauchverlauf konstant bleibt, ist die Zigarre nie Langweilig. Gleichzeitig überfordert sie nicht und kann meines Erachtens nach auch von einem Anfänger problemlos genossen werden.

Alec Bradley - Black Market Toro

RG: 50 (19,8 mm)

Optics / Optik:
Also this Alec Bradly comes with a nice greasy Maduro wrapper. It has a grainy surface with only a few leaf veins. Together with the silky gloss it gives a very attractive appearance.

Auch diese Alec Bradly kommt mit einen schönen speckigen Maduro-Deckblatt. Es weist eine körnige Oberfläche mit nur wenigen Blattadern auf. Zusammen mit dem seidigen Glanz ergibt sich ein sehr ansprechendes Erscheinungsbild.

Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
As with many cigars from Honduras, the strong chocolate smell is noticeable. As has already been noted several times, a sweet and fruity note also resonates here, so that the impression is one of raisin and nut chocolate.

Wie bei vielen Zigarren aus Honduras fällt auch hier der starke Schokoladengeruch auf. Wie schon mehrfach festgestellt schwingt auch hier eine süß-fruchtige Note mit, sodass sich der Eindruck nach Traube-Nuss-Schokolade einstellt.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
The cigar has a relatively mild start. Actually, I remember the Black Market much more strongly. However, this is not to say that the Toro is a lightweight.
The aromas are dominated by clear wood aromas, which bring a slight bitter note and a hint of black pepper. A nice, honest tobacco note goes well with this.

Die Zigarre startet relativ mild. Eigentlich hatte ich die Black Market deutlich kräftiger in Erinnerung. Das soll jetzt allerdings nicht bedeuten, dass es sich bei der Toro um ein Leichtgewicht handelt.
An Aromen dominieren deutliche Holzaromen, welche eine leichte Bitternote und einen Hauch von schwarzem Pfeffer mitbringen. Dazu passt eine schöne, ehrliche Tabaknote.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
Although the aromas remain constant even in the middle part, which doesn't bother me in the least here, the wood aromas increase continuously.

Obwohl die Aromen auch im mittleren Teil konstant bleiben, was mich hier nicht im Geringsten stört, nehmen die Holzaromen kontinuierlich zu.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
This trend continues in the last third. Here, however, the cigar increases noticeably in strength. Nevertheless, the basic aroma impressions remain constant here as well.

Dieser Trend setzt sich auch im letzten Drittel fort. Hier nimmt die Zigarre jedoch merklich an Stärke zu. Allerdings bleiben auch hier die grundsätzlichen Aromeneindrücke konstant.

Flor de Copan - Linea Puros Robusto

First impression / Erster Eindruck:
The strong maduro coloured cigar looks like it is made of dark chocolate. A very nice, oily wrapper with only a few veins.
In the cold smell with clear aromas of dark chocolate and hazelnuts. In the background I notice some aromatic black pepper.

Die kräftig madurofarbene Zigarre sieht aus, als seie sie aus dunkler Schokolade. Ein sehr schönes, öliges Deckblatt mit nur wenigen Adern.
Im Kaltgeruch mit deutlichen Aromen nach dunkler Schokolade und Haselnüssen. Im Hintergrund stelle ich etwas aromatischen schwarzen Pfeffer fest.

Smoking trend / Rauchverlauf:
Contrary to the rather sweet cold smell, the cigar begins quite woody. Primarily I feel reminded of matured apple wood. However, a certain cocoa note can still be noticed, but it doesn't bring any sweetness. In the course of time, the woody aromas increase significantly. After the woody start it's hard to imagine. Nevertheless a minimal sweetness comes up, which reminds me of dried fruit.
For me a very good and balanced, but a bit too monotonous cigar.

Entgegen dem eher süßen Kaltgeruch beginnt die Zigarre recht holzig. Primär fühle ich mich an abgelagertes Obstbaumholz erinnert. Eine gewisse Kakaonote ist aber dennoch feststellbar, die jedoch keinerlei Süße mitbringt.Im weiteren Verlauf nehmen die holzigen Aromen noch einmal deutlich zu. Nach dem holzigen Start eigentlich kaum vorstellbar. Dennoch kommt hier eine minimale Süße auf, die mich an Trockenobst erinnert .
Für mich eine sehr gute und ausgewogene, jedoch etwas zu monotone Zigarre.

Anfängertaugliche Zigarren

In verschiedenen Foren taucht in regelmäßigen Abständen immer wieder die Frage nach anfängertauglichen Zigarren auf. Und auch an mich wird diese Frage regelmäßig herangetragen, welche Zigarren ich einem Anfänger empfehlen würde.

Zunächst aber einmal sei der Hinweis gegeben, dass es sich hierbei um meine persönliche Meinung handelt, neben der es viele andere, zum Teil konträre Einschätzungen gibt.

Entgegen vielen anderen Ratgebern vertrete ich nicht die Ansicht, dass ein Anfänger grundsätzlich mit einer ausgesprochen milden, jedoch dicken Zigarre aus der Dominikanischen Republik beginnen solle. Vielmehr vertrete ich die Ansicht, dass ein angehender Zigarrenraucher sich erst einmal einen kleinen Überblick über die verschiedenen Aromenspektren der unterschiedlichen Herkunftsländer verschaffen sollte. Auch wenn er die einzelnen Aromen noch nicht differenzieren kann, so kann er sicherlich unterscheiden, welche Zigarre bzw. Herkunft ihm zusagt. Sicherlich wird bei manch einem angehenden Aficionado der Preis einer Zigarre ebenfalls eine Rolle spielen. Nicht jeder ist gewillt, direkt am Anfang über 30 € für eine Superpremium-Zigarre auszugeben. Daher werden sich in meinen Empfehlungen viele verschiedene, jedoch qualitativ sehr gute Zigarren aus unterschiedlichen Ländern und aus unterschiedlichen Preisklassen finden.

• ADV - The Navigator Vespucci Robusto (Dominikanische Republik)
  Schöne, milde Zigarre mit einem interessanten Aromenspektrum. Leder, Espresso, Vanille.
• H. Upmann - Half Corona (Kuba)
  Erdig, ledrig, jedoch gleichzeitig cremig. Mild bis mittelkräftig.
• Montecristo - Open Regata (Kuba)
  Typische Kuba-Aromen nach Holz, Erde und Leder. Mild.
• VegaFina - Corona (Dominikanische Republik)
  Milde Zigarre mit cremig-holzigen Aromen, zusätzlich nussig-süß mit floralen Noten.
• Villa Zamorano - Robusto (Honduras)
  Sehr cremige Zigarre mit milden Aromen nach Kaffee, Nüssen und Mandeln. Mild.

Wer darüber hinaus noch weitere anfängertaugliche Zigarren probieren möchte, dem seien folgende Zigarren empfohlen:

  Kakao- und Kaffeearomen, weiterhin florale Aromen. Sehr mild.
• Hoyo de Monterrey - Epicure Nr. 1 (Kuba)
  Neben den kubatypischen Aromen dominieren hier grasige Noten. Mild.
• Monte Pascoal - Corona (Brasil)
  Leicht herbe Zigarre mit holzigen Aromen und leicht bitteren Aromen nach Hopfen und schwarzem Tee. Mild.
• Padron Classic - Panetela natural (Nicaragua)
  Cremig mit Aromen nach Leder und Nougat. Mittelkräftig.
• Por Larrañaga - Panetela (Kuba)
  Erde und Holz mit cremig-süßen und nussigen Komponenten. Mild bis mittelkräftig.
• Maria Mancini Postre de Banquete - No. 7 Corona (Honduras)
  Aromatisch-würzig mit einer leichten Säure. Mittelkräftig.

Meine allererste Zigarre war übrigens ein kubanische Cohiba - Siglo II.

Cigars suitable for beginners

In various forums, the question of cigars suitable for beginners appears again and again at regular intervals. And I am also regularly asked which cigars I would recommend to a beginner.

First of all, I would like to point out that this is my personal opinion, in addition to which there are many other, sometimes contradictory assessments.

Despite many other advisors, I do not believe that a beginner should always start with a very mild but thick cigar from the Dominican Republic. Rather, I believe that a prospective cigar smoker should first get a small overview of the different aroma spectra of the different countries of origin. Even if he cannot differentiate the individual flavours yet, he can certainly distinguish which cigar or origin appeals to him. The price of a cigar will certainly also play a role for some aspiring aficionados. Not everyone is willing to spend more than 30 € for a super premium cigar right at the beginning. Therefore, in my recommendations you will find many different, but qualitatively very good cigars from different countries and from different price ranges.

Alec Bradley - Tempus Terra Novo

A beautiful, spicy Robusto. Primarily woody aromas, in the background coffee and nut. I would call it medium to strong.

Eine schöne, würzige Robusto. Primär holzige Aromen, im Hintergrund Kaffee und Nuss. Ich würde sie als mittelkräftig bis kräftig bezeichnen.

Optics / Optik:
Optically the elegant cigar appears rather robust. The partly more veined wrapper has a rough feel and a rather uneven structure. In spite of a nice greasiness the maduro coloured wrapper does not satisfy me.

Optisch erscheint die elegante Zigarre eher robust. Das zum Teil stärker geäderte Deckblatt weist eine derbe Haptik und eine eher ungleichmäßige Struktur auf. Trotz einer schönen Speckigkeit kann mich das madurofarbene Deckblatt nicht überzeugen.

Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
In the cold smell the Lancero appears almost perfumed. I perceive a very flowery smell, which is accompanied by a strong chocolate note. Hazelnut aromas underline the sweet impression.

Im Kaltgeruch erscheint die Lancero fast schon parfümiert. Ich nehme einen sehr blumigen Geruch wahr, der von einer kräftigen Schokoladennote untermalt wird. Haselnussaromen untermauern den süßen Eindruck.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
After a somewhat unbalanced and bumpy start, the cigar becomes more balanced after about 1/2 inch. Nevertheless it reminds me of a European Shortfiller with its rather sharper aromas. Besides a minimal chilli spiciness I perceive aromas of dry leaves. Clearly woody and tobaccoy notes form the aroma basis.

Nach einem etwas unausgewogen und holprigen Start wird die Zigarre nach etwa 1-2 cm ausgewogener. Dennoch erinnert sie mich mit ihren eher schärferen Aromen an einen europäischen Shortfiller. Neben einer minimalen Chilischärfe nehme ich Aromen von trockenem Laub wahr. Die Aromenbasis bildet eine deutlich holzige und tabakige Note.



2nd third / 2. Drittel:
In the further course the aromas change only marginally. Unfortunately, the cigar remains slightly unbalanced. Also the change of the smoking speed does not change anything. With minimal draughts, the nutty aroma content becomes significantly stronger, but without becoming rounder in the overall spectrum.

Im weiteren Verlauf ändern sich die Aromen kaum. Leider bleibt die Zigarre auch weiterhin leicht unausgewogen. Auch die Änderung der Rauchgeschwindigkeit ändert daran nichts. Bei minimalern Zügen wird der nussige Aromenanteil signifikant stärker, jedoch ohne im Gesamtspektrum runder zu werden.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
Due to the continuously unbalanced aroma I discarded the cigar at the beginning of the last third. That' s a pity.

Durch das fortlaufend unausgewogene Aroma habe ich die Zigarre zu Beginn des letzten Drittels abgelegt. Schade.

Alec Bradley - Liga VM1 2018 Toro

Optics / Optik:
This cigar is the darkest cigar in the set with its Oscuru wrapper. The greasy parts are really black. Even if I personally don't like such dark wrappers, this one has a nice structure. Despite the greasy look, the cover is matt and slightly sandy.

Diese Zigarre ist mit ihrem oscurofarbenen Deckblatt die dunkelste Zigarre im Set. Die speckigen Stellen sind hier regelrecht schwarz. Auch wenn mir persönlich so dunkle Deckblätter nicht so zusagen, ist dieses hier von schöner Struktur. Trotz der speckigen Optik ist das Decklatt matt und fasst sich leicht sandig an.

Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
The first thing I notice is the extreme chocolate smell. Grape-nut chocolate in full measure. In addition a light cinnamon note.

Als erstes fällt mir der extreme Schokoladengeruch auf. Traube-Nuss-Schokolade im vollen Brett. Dazu eine leicht Zimtnote.



1st third / 1. Drittel:
The Toro starts quite mild and creamy. Due to the strong chocolate note in my nose I might think I'm enjoying a chocolate cigarette from my childhood or a flavoured cigar. But neither is the case.

Die Toro startet recht mild und cremig. Durch die kräftige Schokonote in der Nase könnte man meinen, man genießt eine Schokoladenzigarette aus den Kindertagen oder eine aromatisierte Zigarre. Beides ist jedoch nicht der Fall.

2nd and 3rd third / 2. und 3. Drittel:
The aromas remain constant in the further course. In addition to the creaminess and chocolate notes already mentioned, aromas of espresso and burnt toast can be observed.

Die Aromen bleiben auch im weiteren Verlauf konstant. Neben der schon genannten Cremigkeit und den Schokonoten sind Aromen nach Espresso und verbranntem Toast feststellbar.

Alec Bradley Post Embargo - Lancero (2018)

Optics / Optik:
I love the elegant appearance of a beautiful Lancero. And this one looks very good and appealing in its slightly darker colorado with the flawless wrapper.

Ich liebe ja die elegante Erscheinung einer schönen Lancero. Und diese hier sieht in ihrem etwas dunkleren Colorado mit dem makellosen Deckblatt äußerst gut und ansprechend aus.

Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
First of all, the nutty smell is noticeable. This is accompanied by woody aromas of fresh sawdust and some hay.

Zunächst fällt der nussige Geruch auf. Dieser wird untermalt durch holzige Aromen nach frischen Sägespänen und etwas Heu.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
The cigar begins deliciously woody and earthy. Aromas that I didn't necessarily expect, but which surprise me positively. In addition there are aromas of coffee, noisette and some leather. Aromas that I rather associate with Cuba.

Die Zigarre beginnt lecker holzig und erdig. Aromen, die ich nicht unbedingt erwartet hätte, die mich jedoch positiv überraschen. Dazu gesellen sich Aromen nach Kaffee, Noisette und etwas Leder. Aromen, die ich eher mit Kuba verbinde.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
The flavours from the beginning remain fortunately also present in the middle part. Normally I love the variation of the flavours in the smoke of cigars, but here I am happy that the Cuban hints still exist.

Die Aromen vom Anfang bleiben erfreulicherweise auch im Mittelteil präsent. Normalerweise liebe ich bei Zigarren die Variation der Aromen im Rauchverlauf, aber hier freue ich mich, dass die kubanischen Anklänge weiterhin bestehen.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
As expected, the aromas remain constant until the end. As already written, this doesn't bother me here, even if the smoke process seems a bit boring.

Erwartungsgemäß bleiben die Aromen bis zum Ende konstant. Wie schon geschrieben, stört mich das hier jedoch nicht, auch wenn der Rauchverlauf in der Summe etwas langweilig erscheint.

Alec Bradley - Liga M28 2018 Toro

Optics / Optik:
Also this time, the cigar impresses with its appealing appearance. The maduro-coloured wrapper has a matt sheen. It is finely structured with few veins.

Auch dieses Mal besticht die Zigarre durch ihr ansprechendes Äußeres. Das madurofarbene Deckblatt weist einen matten Glanz auf. Es ist fein strukturiert mit wenigen Adern.



Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
In the coldsmell a very strong smell of dark men's chocolate is perceived. In addition aromas of freshly roasted hazelnuts and some orchid. Very interesting and appealing.

Im Kaltgeruch nimmt man einen sehr starken Geruch nach dunkler Herrenschokolade wahr. Dazu Aromen von frisch gerösteten Haselnüssen und etwas Orchidee. Sehr interessant und ansprechend.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
The cigar starts surprisingly mild and creamy. The aromatic base is formed by aromas of leather and wood. In addition some hazelnut shell and hay.

Die Zigarre startet erstaunlich mild und cremig. Das Aromenfundament bilden Aromen von Leder und Holz. Dazu etwas Haselnussschale und Heu.



2nd third / 2. Drittel:
In the middle range the aromas change only slightly. Leather and hazelnut still dominate. The cigar looks very creamy.

Im mittleren Bereich ändern sich die Aromen kaum. Nach wie vor dominieren Leder und Haselnuss. Die Zigarre wirkt ausgesprochen cremig.



3rd third / 3. Drittel:
Also towards the end the aroma spectrum remains in the same way. A tasty-spicy cigar, but I miss the variety a bit.

Auch zum Ende hin bleibt das Aromenspektrum gleich. Eine lecker-würzige Zigarre, bei der ich jedoch etwas die Abwechslung vermisse.

Optics / Optik:
The nice Figuardo has a beautiful madurous wrapper. It is greasy throughout. Unfortunately, it is slightly damaged on one of the few veins, which could indicate a mistake during production.

Die schöne Figuardo weist ein schönes, madurofarbenes Deckblatt auf. Es wirkt durchgehend speckig. Leider ist es an einer der wenigen Adern leicht eingerissen, was möglicherweise auf einen Fehler während der Fertigung hindeuten könnte.

Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
In the coldsmell the cigar reminds of freshly sawn wood and dark chocolate. Other aromas can only be guessed at diffusely in the background. Nevertheless an attractive cold smell.

Im Kaltgeruch erinnert die Zigarre an frisch gesägtes Holz und dunkle Schokolade. Weitere Aromen sind nur diffus im Hintergrund zu erahnen. Dennoch ein attraktiver Kaltgeruch.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
Due to the tapered foot, the cigar begins, as expected, quite restrained. I discover the aromas from the cold smell, which increase continuously during the first centimetre. The full diameter is dominated by the wood aroma, which leaves a slight bitterness on the tongue.
I am somewhat surprised about the angled burning, which accompanies the course of the smoke and which has to be corrected continuously.

Durch den spitz zulaufenden Fuß beginnt die Zigarre erwartungsgemäß recht verhalten. Ich entdecke die Aromen aus dem Kaltgeruch, die während des ersten Zentimeters kontinuierlich zunehmen. Im vollen Durchmesser dominiert das Holzarome, welches eine leichte Bitterkeit auf der Zunge zurücklässt.
Etwas verwundert bin ich über den deutlichen Schiefbrand, der den Rauchverlauf begleitet und der kontinuierlichen korrigiert werden muss.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
In the middle part, the cigar appears even rounder and more aromatic. The wood notes remain present, but sweet aromas are added. These are reminiscent of caramel and biscuits.
The initial angled burning has disappeared and the cigar burns evenly.

Im Mittelteil wirkt die Zigarre noch einmal runder und aromatischer. Die Holznoten bleiben präsent, jedoch kommen süße Aromen hinzu. Diese erinnern an Karamell und Biskuit.
Der anfängliche Schiefbrand ist verschwunden und die Zigarre brennt schön gleichmäßig ab.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
The previous flavours remain present in the last third. Unfortunately the last centimetre of the cigar becomes rather unharmonious and bitter, which led to an, for me, early settling.

Die bisherigen Aromen bleiben auch im letzten Drittel präsent. Leider wird die Zigarre auf dem letzten Zentimeter ziemlich unharmonisch und bitter, was zu einem, für mich, frühen Ablegen führte.

Alec Bradley Lineage - Robusto 552 (2018)

Optics / Optik:
The Lineage Robusto also has a very attractive wrapper. Some specky spots underline the good impression. I would describe the colour as light colorado-maduro.
The head of the cigar is closed by a twisted knot.

Auch die Lineage Robusto verfügt über ein sehr ansprechendes Deckblatt. Einige speckige Spots unterstreichen den guten Eindruck. Die Farbe würde ich als helles Colorado-Maduro beschreiben.
Nach oben hin wird die Zigarre durch einen gezwirbelten Knoten abgeschlossen.

Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
As with the last Alec Bradleys, the nutty aromas of hazelnut and almond first catch the eye. These are underlined by woody notes, which are complemented by some cinnamon. It also reminds one of sweet rum.

Wie auch bei den letzten Alec Bradleys fallen zuerst die nussigen Aromen nach Haselnuss und Mandel auf. Unterstrichen werden diese durch holzige Noten, welche durch etwas Zimt ergänzt werden. Man fühlt sich ebenfalls leicht an süßen Rum erinnert.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
The cigar is already very harmonious in the first drawes. Spontaneously I think of sandalwood and hazelnut. But also spices such as black pepper and herbs de Provence are recognizable. The smoke itself appears dry on the palate.

Die Zigarre ist in den ersten Zügen bereits sehr harmonisch. Spontan denke ich an Sandelholz und Haselnuss. Aber auch Gewürze wie zum Beispiel schwarzer Pfeffer und Kräuter der Provence sind erkennbar. Der Rauch selber erscheint trocken am Gaumen.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
The basic aromas change very slightly in the further course. However, the herbal aromas are more clearly perceptible. This makes the already very aromatic cigar even more aromatic.

Im weiteren Verlauf ändern sich die grundsätzlichen Aromen kaum. Allerdings sind die Kräuteraromen deutlicher wahrnehmbar. Hier durch wirkt die ohnehin schon sehr aromatische Zigarre noch aromatischer.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
Towards the end, the nutty aromas from the first third and the cold smell clearly increase. But also the sandalwood remains present. On the last centimetre, aromas of menthol and laurel are added, rounding off the aromatic smoke process.

Zum Ende hin nehmen die nussigen Aromen aus dem ersten Drittel und dem Kaltgeruch deutlich zu. Aber auch das Sandelholz bleibt weiter präsent. Auf dem letzten Zentimeter kommen Aromen nach Menthol und Lorbeer hinzu und runden den aromatischen Rauchverlauf ab.

Alec Bradley Pensado Lost Art - Robusto (2018)

Optics / Optik:
The maduro coloured cigar is slightly boxpressed. The very beautiful, slightly matte shimmering wrapper has a slight veining. A slight graininess can be seen on the surface.

Die madurofarbene Zigarre ist leicht boxpressed. Das sehr schöne, leicht matte schimmernde Deckblatt weist eine geringe Äderung auf. Oberflächlich ist eine leichte Körnigkeit feststellbar.

Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
The first impression I get is raw cocoa and green walnut. Smells of sawdust and tobacco are added.

Als ersten Eindruck nehme ich Rohkakao und grüne Walnuss wahr. Dazu gesellen sich Gerüche nach Sägespänen und Tabak.

Smoking profile / Rauchverlauf:
The cigar starts with strong roasted aromas of black coffee and burnt toast. The last-named one provides a subtle sweetness in the background. Very soon there are strong woody notes. I could very well imagine a sweet brandy from Spain as a companion.
From the half the roasted aromas decrease a little and the cigar develops nutty aromas. Nevertheless, the coffee aromas remain present.
At the end the woody aromas dominate again. All in all a delicious, spicy cigar that never gets boring.

Die Zigarre startet mit kräftigen Röstaromen nach schwarzem Kaffee und angebranntem Toast. Letzterer sorgt im Hintergrund für eine subtile Süße. Als Begleiter könnte ich mir sehr gut einen süßlichen Brandy aus Spanien vorstellen. Sehr bald stellen sich kräftig holzige Noten ein.
Ab der Mitte nehmen die Röstaromen etwas ab und die Zigarre entwickelt nussige Aromen. Dennoch bleiben die Kaffeearomen weiterhin präsent.
Zum Ende hin dominieren dann wieder die holzigen Aromen. Alles in allem eine leckere, würzige Zigarre, die nie langweilig wird.

Alec Bradley - Liga BF3 2018 Toro

Optics / Optik:
Visually, the cigar comes in an appetizing Maduro. As with the last Alec Bradley, it is without flaws. A beautiful structure, clearly greasy and very appealing.

Optisch kommt die Zigarre in einem appetitlichen Maduro daher. Wie schon bei der letzten Alec Bradley ist es makellos. Eine schöne Struktur, deutlich speckig und sehr ansprechend.

Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
In the first, I notice here is the distinct chocolate smell, which reminds me of milk chocolate. I also notice aromas of cooked cream, vanilla and almond.

Als erstes fällt mir auch hier der deutliche Schokoladengeruch auf, der mich hier an Milchschokolade erinnert. Weiterhin nehme ich Aromen nach gekockter Sahne, Vanille und Mandel wahr.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
In contrast to the very sweet cold smell, the cigar starts quite tart. I feel reminded of dry earth and coal. Cappucchino is found as a sweet-aromatic component as well.

Im Gegensatz zum sehr süßlichen Kaltgeruch, startet die Zigarre recht herb. Ich fühle mich an trockene Erde und Kohle erinnert. Aber auch Cappucchino ist als süß-aromatische Komponente feststellbar.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
In the middle part the cigar appears to me clearly more harmonious. Woody aromas determine the basic taste. Black coffee and some vanilla complement the woody basic aromas very pleasantly.

Im Mittelteil erscheint mir die Zigarre deutlich harmonischer. Holzige Aromen bestimmen hier den Grundtenor. Schwarzer Kaffee und etwas Vanille ergänzendie holzigen Grundaromen sehr angenehm.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
The aromas of the middle part continue also in the last third. Here the woody aromas become even stronger, while the sweetness disappears completely.

Die Aromen des Mittelteils setzen sich auch im letzten Drittel fort. Hier werden die holzigen Aromen noch einmal kräftiger, während die Süße komplett verschwindet.

Conclusion / Fazit:
Despite the somewhat bumpy beginning for me, the Blend seems a bit more harmonious and mature compared to the previously smoked Liga A12 2018.

Trotz des für mich etwas holprigen Beginns erscheint mir dem Blend im Vergleich mit der zuvor gerauchten Liga A12 2018 etwas harmonischer und ausgereifter.

Alec Bradley - Liga A12 2018 Toro

Optics / Optik:
As always with Alec Bradley, the cigar impresses with its perfect appearance. The very fine, colorado-madurous wrapper has a silky sheen with a few oily spots.

Wie immer bei Alec Bradley besticht die Zigarre durch ihr makelloses Äußeres. Das sehr feine, colorado-madurofarbenes Deckblatt weist einen seidigen Glanz mit wenigen speckigen Spots auf.

Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
In the first impression strongly chocolaty. Nosette and raw cocoa. Still roasted hazelnuts. For me a typical honduran cold smell.

Im ersten Eindruck kräftig schokoladig. Nosette und Rohkakao. Weiterhin geröstete Haselmüsse. Für mich ein hondurastypischer Kaltgeruch.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
The cigar starts with spicy-bitter aromas of black coffee. The woody aromas, which are also tart, go well with this cigar. Bayleaf aromas complete the overall impression with an aromatic facet.

Die Zigarre startet mit würzig-bitteren Aromen nach schwarzem Kaffee. Dazu passen die ebenfalls herben holzigen Aromen. Lorbeeraromen ergänzen das Gesamtbild um eine aromatische Facette.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
The tart, spicy aromas of black coffee and wood are also present in the second third. Here they are complemented by aromas of fresh grass and black tea.

Die würzig-herben Aromen nach schwarzem Kaffee und Holz bleiben auch im zweiten Drittem präsent. Ergänzt werden sie hier von Aromen nach frischem Gras und schwarzem Tee.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
Towards the end, the spicy and tangy basic aromas of black coffee and oak, which dominate the entire smoke, appear even stronger. I miss a really aromatic component here.

Zum Ende hin treten die den gesamten Rauchverlauf domoinierenden würzig-herben Grundaromen nach Schwarzem Kaffee und Eichenholz noch einmal verstärkt auf.

Conclusion / Fazit:
In my opinion, the blend is not yet fully developed. I can't say whether it is due to the blend itself or to a somewhat too short maturing time. Despite a certain harmony I lack the finesse here. Nevertheless an honest cigar, which will find its lovers.

Mir erscheint der Blend noch nicht ganz ausgereift. Ob es jetzt allerdings am Blend oder an einer etwas zu kurzen Reifezeit liegt, vermag ich nicht zu sagen. Trotz einer gewissen Harmonie fehlt mir hier die Finesse. Dennoch eine ehrliche Zigarre, die ihre Liebhaber finden wird.

Alec Bradley Roadtour Sampler 2018

As part of Alec Bradley's Roadtour 2018 I purchased the corresponding sampler, whose cigars will be tasted and discussed in the near future.

Im Rahmen der Roadtour 2018 von Alec Bradley habe ich den zugehörigen Sampler erworben, dessen Zigarren in der nächsten Zeit verkostet undbesprochen werden wird.

The sampler contains a total of 10 cigars. There are six standard cigar and four officially not yet available cigars.

Insgesamt enthält der Sampler 10 Zigarren. Neben sechs Standardzigarren sind darin auch vier offiziell noch nicht erhältliche Zigarren enthalten.

Optically perfect madurocolored wrapper. Greasy, oily, very appetizing.
Optisch perfektes madurofarbenes Deckblatt. Speckig, ölig, sehr appetitlich.

Coldsmell / Kaltgeruch:
For me a pretty typical cold smell. Cocoa and dark chocolate in abundance. Strongly aromatic with some acidity in the background.
Für mich ein recht typischer Kaltgeruch. Kakao und dunkle Schokolade im vollen Brett. Kräftig aromatisch mit etwas Säure im Hintergrund.

Smoking course / Rauchverlauf:
The cigar starts vigorously woody with a light background sweetness. The creamy smoke affects dry on the palate. In the course nutty flavors and aromas of dark chocolate are added. Later the earthy and woody tones dominate again. Unfortunately, the cigar became bitter towards the end. This led to a premature drop.
Die Zigarre beginnt direkt kräftig holzig mit einer leichten Hintergrundsüße. Der cremige Rauch wirkt am Gaumen trocken. Im weiteren Verlauf kommen nussige Aromen und Aromen von dunkler Schokolade hinzu. Später dominieren wieder die erdigen und holzigen Töne. Leider wurde die Zigarre zum Ende hin bitter, was zu einem vorzeitigen Ablegen führte.

Indian Tabac - Classic Tomahawk

Optics / Optik
Dark, greasy Maduro. Fine wrapper with only a few veins.
Dunkles, speckiges Maduro. Feines Deckblatt mit wenigen Adern.

Flavors / Aromen
The cigar begins quite vigorously. Significantly woody and earthy. A subtle sweetness. In addition, aromas of bread and black tea are added.
Over the entire smoke pattern quite linear but never boring.
Die Zigarre beginnt recht kräftig. Deutlich holzig und erdig. Dazu eine subtile Süße. Ergänzend kommen Aromen von Brot und schwarzem Tee hinzu.
Über den gesamten Rauchverlauf recht linear aber nicht langweilig.

Conclusion / Fazit
A nice tasty Toro for the evening.
Eine schöne leckere Toro für den Abend.

Leaf by Oscar - Corojo

Optics / Optik:
The obvious special about the Leaf is the additional outer leaf with which the cigar is wrapped. This is to preserve the flavor of the cigar in a particular way.
After unwrapping a maduro colored, slightly greasy wrapper is revealed. It has a fine structure with very little veins. A very appetizing sight.

Das offensichtlich Besondere der Leaf ist das zusätzliche Umblatt, mit dem die Zigarre eingewickelt ist. Dieses soll das Aroma der Zigarre in besonderem Maße bewahren.
Nach dem Auswickeln kommt ein madurofarbenes, leicht speckiges Deckblatt zum Vorschein. Es hat eine feine Struktur mit sehr wenig Adern. Ein sehr appetitlicher Anblick.

Coldsmell / Kaltgeruch:
The cold smell reveal spicy aromas of dark chocolate, hazelnut shell and some herbs.

Der Kaltgeruch zeigt würzige Aromen nach dunkler Schokolade, Haselnussschale und etwas Kräutern.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
After lighting rather dark flavors dominate the smoke. Wood and clay are detectable. For this purpose an aromatic component of dried garden herbs can be determined. Dense and complex smoke that carries along a bitter component.

Nach dem Anzünden dominieren eher dunkle Aromen den Rauch. Holz und Tonerde sind feststellbar. Dazu eine aromatische Komponente von getrockneten Gartenkräutern. Dichter und komplexer Rauch, der eine herbe Komponente mit sich führt.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
In the further course the cigar becomes milder, without losing any spiciness. The woody aromas dominate the middle course. However, a certain sweetness is detected that makes the cigar appearing quite tasty. Furthermore, very complex.

Im weiteren Verlauf wird die Zigarre etwas milder, ohne jedoch an Würzigkeit einzubüßen. Die holzigen Aromen dominieren den mittleren Verlauf. Es ist hier allerdings eine gewisse Süße feststellbar, die die Zigarre regelrecht süffig erscheinen lässt. Weiterhin sehr komplex.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
This appetibility continues until the end. Likewise, the round overall impression. In the end, more light earthy aromas dominates the smoke. However, the woody aromas remains present. In addition, here come up slightly bitter flavors of tannins. In the final, aromatic tension is built up. Thus, a further aromatic facet is added to the cigar.

Diese Süffigkeit setzt sich bis zum Schluss fort. Ebenso der runde Gesamteindruck. Am Ende dominieren eher leicht erdige Aromen. Jedoch bleiben die holzigen Aromen weiterhin präsent. Zusätzlich kommen hier leicht bittere Aromen nach Tanninen auf. Dadurch wird im Finale weiter Spannung aufgebaut, die der Zigarre eine weitere aromatische Facette hinzufügt.

For me, the cigar is a clear recommendation that you should have smoked. Also, the additional wrapper provides additional experience value. In how far it provides additional flavor, I can not judge. But I could imagine that it affects the aging positive.

Für mich ist die Zigarre eine eindeutige Empfehlung, die man einmal rauchen sollte. Auch das zusätzliche Deckblatt sorgt für einen zusätzlichen Erlebniswert. In wie weit es für zusätzliches Aroma sorgt, kann ich nicht beurteilen. Ich könnte mir aber denken, dass es die Reifung positiv beeinflusst.
