Fonseca - Delicias (2015)

Optics / Optik:
As all the Fonsecas, the Delicias dresses in a sleeve of tissue paper. Underneath, in this case, an extremely dark maduro-coloured wrapper appears. Unfortunately, it has a rather rough structure with several well visible veins, which has a negative influence on the optical impression. Optically, this Fonseca reminds me of a shortfiller from brazil tobacco.

Wie alle Fonsecas, so kleidet sich die Delicias in eine Hülle von Seidenpapier. Darunter kommt in diesem Fall ein extrem dunkles madurofarbenes Deckblatt zum Vorschein. Leider ist es von recht grober Struktur mit etlichen gut sichtbaren Adern, was den optischen Eindruck negativ beeinflusst. Optisch erinnert mich diese Fonseca an einen Brasil-Shortfiller.

Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
At first I notice the pleasantly spicy and flowery note. Cedar wood, flower meadow and lavender are some of the keywords that come to my mind. In the background I perceive a pleasant cocoa and noisette note. Thereby the bad optical impression is compensated a little bit.

Zuerst fällt mir die angenehm würzig-blumige Note auf. Zedernholz, Blumenwiese und Lavendel fallen mir als Stichworte ein. Im Hintergrund nehme ich eine angenehme Kakao- und Noisettenote wahr. Dadurch wird der schlechte optische Eindruck wieder etwas ausgeglichen.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
As with almost all Cuban cigars, different wood aromas provide the aroma foundation. This is supported by a floral component that reminds me of fresh hay. Added to this is a mild note of milk chocolate.

Wie bei fast allen kubanischen Zigarren bilden verschiedene Holzaromen das Aromafundament. Dieses wird unterstützt durch eine florale Komponente, die mich an frisches Heu erinnert. Hinzukommt eine milde Note nach Milchschokolade.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
In the middle part the wooden aromas diminish somewhat. In its place there is an aroma impression that reminds me of smouldering grass. The notes of dark chocolate, which increase more and more, go well with it.

Im Mittelteil nehmen die Holzaromen etwas ab. An seine Stelle tritt ein Aromaeindruck, der mich an schwelendes Gras erinnert. Dazu passen hervorragend Noten von dunkler Schokolade, welche mehr und mehr zunehmen.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
Towards the end the small cigar develops more wood aromas again. These remind me of oak and cedar wood. In addition, the aromas of dark chocolate in the background are still noticeable. But these are somewhat softened by a floral impression.

Zum Ende hin entwickelt die kleine Zigarre wieder vermehrt Holzaromen. Diese erinnern mich an Eichen- und Zedernholz. Dazu bleiben die Aromen nach dunkler Schokolade im Hintergrund weiterhin feststellbar. Diese werden aber durch einen blumigen Eindruck etwas abgemildert.

Conclusion / Fazit:
Despite the visual shortcomings, the Fonseca - Delicias is a round cigar with a complex and delicious taste. If you are looking for a smaller and rather mild cigar, you will find a delicious recommendation from the Cuban shelf here.

Trotz der optischen Unzulänglichkeiten ist die Fonseca - Delicias eine runde und durch komplexe leckere Zigarre. Wer eine kleinere und eher milde Zigarre sucht findet hier eine leckere Empfehlung aus dem Kubaregal.

Ramón Allones - Allones Extra EL 2011

Coldsmell / Kaltgeruch:
Lightly floral (summer flowers), chocolate flavors, in the background some cedar wood.
Leicht floral (Sommerblüten), Schokoaromen, im Hintergrund etwas Zedernholz.

Impressions / Eindrücke
The cigar starts yummy aromatic. Slightly sweet, with tart aromas of oak.
During the further course chocolate flavors and bit of acid can be detected. The cigar is profound and very tasty.
The flavors partly reminiscent of of marzipan. These impressions maintained until the end, although the sweetness decreases continuously from the beginning.
Die Zigarre startet lecker aromatisch. Leicht süßlich mit herben Holzaromen.
Im weiteren Verlauf sind Schokoaromen und eine minimale Säure feststellbar. Die Zigarre ist tiefgründig und sehr lecker.
Teilweise erinnern die Aromen an Marzipan. Diese Eindrücke halten bis zum Ende an, auch wenn die Süße vom Anfang kontinuierlich abnimmt.

Partagás - C No. 1 (2011)

Optics / Optik
"Perfect" is the shortest possible description of these really very attractive cigar. The impeccable, colorado-maduro colored wrapper has no visible veins. It is dyed very evenly and has a tasty-greasy appearance.

"Perfekt" ist die kürzest mögliche Beschreibung dieser wirklich sehr ansprechenden Zigarre. Das makellose, colorado-madurofarbene Deckblatt weist keine sichtbaren Adern auf. Es ist sehr gleichmäßig gefärbt und verfügt über ein appetitlich-speckiges Aussehen.

Coldsmell / Kaltgeruch:
The first impression is chocolaty-sweet. Furthermore aromas of hazelnut and roasted almonds are detectable, which increase the anticipation.

Der erste Eindruck ist schokoladig-süß. Weiterhin sind Aromen von Haselnuss und gebrannten Mandeln feststellbar, die die Vorfreude weiter erhöhen.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
The cigar start with a kind of nutty flavors. Tie in the leathery aromas in the background. Thus forms a tendency sweetish foundation that I rather rare find at Partagás. So it's no longer surprised that emerge gradually chocolate flavors. This elude increasingly tart leather flavors and a slightly woody aftertaste.

Die Zigarre starten mit eher nussigen Aromen. Dazu passen die ledrigen Aromen im Hintergrund. So bildet sich ein tendenziell süßliches Fundament, welches ich bei Partagás eher selten finde. So überrascht es auch nicht mehr, dass nach und nach Schokoladenaromen hervortreten. Diese weichen jedoch zunehmend herben Lederaromen und einem leicht holzigen Nachklang.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
This leather aromas also constitute the foundation in the middle section. The cigar has become tart, but without losing the nutty flavors. The initial sweetness is completely gone. The cigar is quite complex here.

Diese Lederaromen bilden auch das Fundament im mittleren Abschnitt. Die Zigarre ist herber geworden, ohne jedoch die nussigen Aromen zu verlieren. Die anfängliche Süße ist vollständig verschwunden. Die Zigarre ist auch hier recht komplex.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
In the last third to light come ever more cuba typical flavors. Leather and wood form the foundation. Here paired with spicy garden herbs. The sweet, nutty flavors are completely gone. While the beginning was not typical of a Partagás, the end is through and through a Partagás.

Im letzten Drittel kommen immer mehr kubatypische Aromen zum Vorschein. Leder und Holz bilden das Fundament. Hier gepaart mit würzigen Gartenkräutern. Die süßen, nussigen Aromen sind vollständig verschwunden. Während der Anfang für eine Partagás eher untypisch war, ist das Ende durch und durch Partagás.

Conclusion / Fazit:
Cigars of Colleción Habanos, also called bookcigars, are always a good choice and always a treat.

Die Zigarren der Colleción Habanos, auch Buchzigarren genannt, sind immer eine gute Wahl und durch und durch etwas Besonderes.

Cueto - Diademas (Feb 2008)

José Castelar Cairo, called "Cueto", works in the Case del Habano at the entrance to the fortress of La Cabaña complex in Habana del Este. He holds the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest cigar in the world (more than 81 m long!) which he rolled. His specialty are figurado formats, such as the smoked Diademas here.
This cigar has still a special feature. Nino, who gave me the cigar at the last ANS has provided it with his private Anila. He asked me for my impressions. And I am happy to describe my impressions here.

José Castelar Cairo, genannt "Cueto", arbeitet in der Case del Habano am Eingang zum Festungskomplex La Cabaña in Habana del Este. Er steht im Guiness-Buch der Rekorde für die längste Cigarre der Welt (mehr als 81 m lang!), die er gerollt hat. Seine Spezialität sind Figurado-Formate, wie z.B. die hier gerauchte Diademas.
Diese Zigarre hier weist noch eine weitere Besonderheit auf. Nino, der mir die Zigarre beim letzten ANS gab, hat sie mit seiner privaten Anila versehen. Er bat mich um meine Eindrücke und ich freue mich, meine Eindrücke hier zu schildern.

Optics / Optik
Like any other Diademas this one seems very elegant to me. Although with a ring gauge of 55 is it not really thin and with a length of 233 mm anything but short but the ratio between length and diameter produced this with me.
The cigar has a perfect colorado colored wrapper. This is remarkable, because for a cigar of this size an extra large wrapper is required. It has a very fine texture and fine, barely visible veins on. With its silky sheen and slightly greasy impression this great Perfecto looks extremely seductive.

Wie jede Diademas wirkt auch diese hier auf mich sehr elegant. Obwohl mit einem Ringmaß von 55 nicht gerade dünn und mit einer Länge von 233 mm alles andere als kurz, so erzeugt doch das Verhältnis von Länge zu Durchmesser dieses Bild bei mir.
Die Zigarre hat ein perfektes coloradofarbenes Deckblatt. Das ist insofern bemerkenswert, da für eine Zigarre dieser Größe ein besonders großes Deckblatt benötigt wird. Es ist von sehr feiner Struktur und weist eine feine, kaum sichtbare Aderung auf. Mit seinem seidigen Glanz und dem leicht speckigen Eindruck wirkt diese große Perfecto äußerst verführerisch.

Coldsmell / Kaltgeruch
Primary strikes me a pronounced smell of spanish cedar and sandalwood. This impression is enhanced by aromatic scent of roses. This creates almost a serious impression. Scents of vanilla, butter and raisins mitigate this again. This results in a harmonious overall odor.

Primär fällt mir ein ausgeprägter Geruch nach spanischer Zeder und Sandelholz auf. Unterstrichen wird dieser aromatische Eindruck durch Rosenduft, welcher schon fast einen schweren Eindruck hinterlässt. Vanille, Butter und Rosinen mildern diesen wieder ab, sodass ein harmonischer Gesamtgeruch entsteht.

1st third / 1. Drittel
The first impression is very round and smooth. Mild woody with a slight hint of honey. Serve with the aromas of walnut and almond, which underline the beautiful autumnal enjoyment.

Der erste Eindruck ist ausgesprochen rund und cremig. Mild-holzig mit einer leichten Andeutung von Honig. Dazu passen die Aromen nach Walnuss und Mandel, welche den herbstlichen Genuss sehr schön unterstreichen.

2nd third / 2. Drittel
In the middle section, the cigar remains perfectly round and extremely complex. After the rather mild starting, it becomes stronger and spicy. The woody flavors come to the fore and are complemented by floral aromas of garden herbs. The spicy flavors recall here fern leaves and dried oregano.

Im mittleren Bereich bleibt die Zigarre weiterhin rund und äußerst komplex. Nach dem eher milden Start wird die Zigarre deutlich kräftiger und würziger. Die holzigen Aromen treten hier mehr in den Vordergrund und werden durch florale Aromen nach Gartenkräutern ergänzt. Die würzigen Aromen erinnern hier an Farnkraut und getrockneten Oregano.

3rd third / 3. Drittel
Toward the end, this is custom rolled Habano once again more complex. It is difficult for me to identify specific flavors. So far, woody flavors were dominant. Now occur aromas of leather in the foreground. Overall, the cigar is spicy, but slightly sweet at the same time. The result is a delicious field of tension. The final is finally introduced by aromas of black pepper and sweetened black tea.

Zum Ende hin wird diese custom rolled Habano noch einmal komplexer. Es fällt mir schwer, konkrete Aromen zu ermitteln. Dominierten bisher holzige Aromen, treten hier Aromen nach Leder in den Vordergrund. Insgesamt ist die Zigarre ist würzig, jedoch gleichzeitig etwas süßlich. Dadurch ergibt sich ein sehr leckeres Spannungsfeld. Das Finale wird schließlich mit Aromen von schwarzem Pfeffer und gesüßtem Tee eingeleitet.

Conclusion / Fazit:
And what remains as a conclusion after nearly three enjoyable hours? It was a great pleasure for me to was able to enjoy this excellent cigar. Thank you, Nino.

Und was bleibt als Fazit nach knapp drei genussvollen Stunden? Es war mir eine große Freude, diese hervorragende Zigarre genießen zu dürfen. Danke, Nino.

Juan López - Selection No. 2 (Aug 2008)

Appetizing Colorado, beautiful, oily wrapper, minimal veins.

Coldsmell:
Honey, cereals, nuts, spring onions

1st third:
In contrast to the coldsmell initially quite tart. Oak bark and oak wood, light straw-like.

Rye bread, chocolate, nougat, caramel.

3rd third:
After the sweet and aromatic middle part again clearly harsh flavors. Woody, leather, but also some toasted hazelnut and almond.

Partagás - D No. 5 EL 2008

Optics / Optik:
The cigar has a beautiful, greasy colorado wrapper. It has a fine structure without significant veins. Unfortunately, a few bumps from the used binder are visible. Nevertheless, the cigar looks very appetizing.

Die Zigarre hat ein wunderschönes, speckiges Colorado-Deckblatt. Es hat eine feine Struktur ohne nennenswerte Adern. Leider drücken sich ein paar Unebenheiten vom verwendeten Umblatt durch. Dennoch wirkt die Zigarre äußerst appetitlich.

Coldsmell / Kaltgeruch
The first thing I notice flowery aromas that remind me of roses. The rest of the flavors fade into the background. Aromas of freshly roasted hazelnut and slightly woody aromas form a pleasant contrast to the superficial sweetness.

Als erstes fallen mir blumige Aromen auf, die mich an Rosen erinnern. Die restlichen Aromen treten dem gegenüber in den Hintergrund. Hier bilden Aromen nach frisch gerösteter Haselnuss und leicht holzige Aromen einen angenehmen Kontrast zur vordergründigen Süße.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
The small EL starts right neat. Strong woody aromas dominate from the beginning and remind you of sawdust. I'm inspired by a nutty component like chestnut.

Die kleine EL startet direkt ordentlich durch. Kräftig holzige Aromen dominieren von Anfang an und erinnern an Sägespäne. Dazu kommt eine nussige Komponente nach Kastanie.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
Even in the middle part, the Cuban not deny their origins. The wood flavors are replaced by spicy aromas of leather and hazelnut shell. Medium-strong aromas of toast and black tea form an aromatic component.

Auch im mittleren Teil kann die Kubanerin ihre Herkunft nicht verleugnen. Die Holzaromen werden durch würzige Aromen nach Leder und Haselnussschale abgelöst. Mittelstarke Röstaromen und schwarzer Tee bilden eine aromatische Komponente.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
Toward the end, woody and earthy flavors dominate again. Here, however, they appear much drier. Also the leather aroma from the middle part can be found here in a dry expression.

Zum Ende hin dominieren wieder holzig-erdige Aromen. Hier erscheinen sie jedoch deutlich trockener. Aber auch das Lederaroma aus dem Mittelteil findet sich hier in einer trockenen Ausprägung.

Burning, ash / Abbrand, Asche:
The cigar burned slightly wrong. Only in the last third had to be lit from time to time. Here the wrapper had slightly reduced fire properties.
There is not much to say about the medium-gray, slightly cracked ash. She had a good stability and was as aspected.

Die Zigarre brannte minimal schief ab. Lediglich im letzten Drittel musste ab und zu nachgezündet werden. Hier wies das Deckblatt etwas verminderte Brandeigenschaften auf.
Über die mittelgraue, minimal rissige Asche ist nicht viel zu sagen. Sie war von guter Stabilität und auch sonst erwartungsgemäß.

Conclusion / Fazit:
No doubt, the D No. 5 is a typical cuban Cigar and a worthy cigar to celebrate today the World No Tobacco Day 2013.

Keine Frage, die D No. 5 ist eine typische Kubanerin und eine würdige Zigarre, um den heutigen Weltnichtrauchertag 2013 zu begehen.

Montecristo - Especiales No. 2 (Mai 2007)

Optics / Optik:
The cigar is dressed in a classic Colorado. The perfect wrapper has only minimal veins. Very smooth, slightly greasy surface.

Die Zigarre kleidet sich in ein klassisches colorado. Das perfekte Deckblatt weist nur eine minimale Aderung auf. Sehr gleichmäßige, leicht speckige Oberfläche.

Coldsmell / Kaltgeruch:
An almost christmassy coldsmell. Milk chocolate, cinnamon and hazelnut. Additional a spicy flavor which is reminding of rich, dark chocolate.

Ein fast schon weihnachtlicher Kaltgeruch. Milchschokolade, etwas Zimt und Haselnuss. Dazu ein würziger Hauch, der an kräftige, dunkle Schokolade erinnert.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
The cigar starts nutty and sweet. This confirms the coldsmell. But at the same time also spicy, with a share of roasted flavors. On the palate it presents itself pleasantly creamy.

Die Zigarre startet dem Kaltgeruch entspreched nussig und süßlich. Gleichzeitig aber auch würzig mit einem Anteil von Röstaromen. Am Gaumen präsentiert sie sich angenehm cremig.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
Also to the middle it stays spicy with mild roast and herb flavors. At the same time flavors of white pepper appear. These go very well with a buttery, light caramel sweetness

Auch zur Mitte hin bleibt sie mit leichte Röst- und Kräuteraromen würzig. Dazukommende Aromen von weißer Pfeffer harmonieren sehr gut mit einer buttrigen, leichten Karamellsüße.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
Towards the end the elegant cigar becomes more and more strength.
In addition to strong aromatic spices such as black pepper and herbs, are now wood flavors more into the foreground.

Gegen Ende legt die elegante Zigarre noch einmal kräftig zu.
Neben kräftig-aromatischen Gewürzen wie z. B. schwarzer Pfeffer und Kräuter, treten nun hölzern Aromen mehr in den Vordergrund.

Burning, ash / Abbrand, Asche:
The Especiales No. 2 forms a very stable ash. The grainy, light gray ash shows an streaky, cracked surface.
Beautiful, even burning.

Die Especiales No. 2 bildet eine sehr stabile Asche aus. Die körnige, hellgraue Asche zeigt eine streifige, rissige Oberfläche.
Schöner, gleichmäßiger Abbrand.

Conclusion / Fazit:
A very elegant format. In my opinion, this 5 years old Long Panatela is in a wonderfully spicy climax. For the future, I still see a significant aging-potential. If possible deposits!

Ein sehr elegantes Format. Mit einem Alter von 5 Jahren ist diese Long Panatela meines Erachtens auf einem herrlich würzigen Höhepunkt. Allerdings auch für die Zukunft sehe ich noch ein deutliches Potential. Wenn möglich: einlagen!
