First impression / Erster Eindruck:
Optically the cigarillo reminds me of an italian Toscano. Of course here without the typical smell of smoked ham. The wrapper is very dark and of rather robust structure.
The actual coldsmell is surprisingly sweet and quite flowery. A dry tobacco note also resonates here and forms a brazilian signature.

Optisch erinnert mich der Zigarillo an eine italienische Toscano. Natürlich hier ohne den typischen Geruch nach geräuchertem Schinken. Das Deckblatt ist sehr dunkel und von eher robuster Struktur.
Den eigentlichen Kaltgeruch erscheint erstaunlicherweise süßlich und recht blumig. Eine trockene Tabaknote schwingt auch hier mit und bildet eine brasilianische Unterschrift.

Smoking trend / Rauchverlauf:
The cigarillo starts juicy and smooth. In contrast to other brasilian cigarillos, the slightly scratchy note is missing here. I would call this cigarillo rather flowery-mild. Nevertheless, the Brazilian origin can be tasted well.
In the further course the smoke becomes dry and brings a typical acidity and strong roasted aromas of espresso beans and burnt toast. In addition there is a strong leather note.

Der Zigarillo startet saftig-süffig. Entgegen sonstigen Brasil-Zigarillos fehlt hier die leicht kratzige Note. Diesen Zigarillo würde ich eher als blumig-mild bezeichnen. Dennoch lässt sich die brasilianische Herkunft gut herausschmecken.
Im weiteren Verlauf wird der Rauch trocken und bringt eine für mich recht typische Säure und kräftige Röstaromen nach Espressobohnen und verbranntem Toast mit. Dazu gesellt sich eine kräftige Ledernote.

Conclusion / Fazit:
I could imagine that this cigarillo is an excellent companion to an espresso or a smoky Islay whisky, especially in the colder season.

Ich könnte mir vorstellen, dass dieser Zigarillo, besonders in der kälteren Jahreszeit, ein hervorragender Begleiter zu einem Espresso oder einem rauchigen Islay-Whisky ist.

Anfängertaugliche Zigarren

In verschiedenen Foren taucht in regelmäßigen Abständen immer wieder die Frage nach anfängertauglichen Zigarren auf. Und auch an mich wird diese Frage regelmäßig herangetragen, welche Zigarren ich einem Anfänger empfehlen würde.

Zunächst aber einmal sei der Hinweis gegeben, dass es sich hierbei um meine persönliche Meinung handelt, neben der es viele andere, zum Teil konträre Einschätzungen gibt.

Entgegen vielen anderen Ratgebern vertrete ich nicht die Ansicht, dass ein Anfänger grundsätzlich mit einer ausgesprochen milden, jedoch dicken Zigarre aus der Dominikanischen Republik beginnen solle. Vielmehr vertrete ich die Ansicht, dass ein angehender Zigarrenraucher sich erst einmal einen kleinen Überblick über die verschiedenen Aromenspektren der unterschiedlichen Herkunftsländer verschaffen sollte. Auch wenn er die einzelnen Aromen noch nicht differenzieren kann, so kann er sicherlich unterscheiden, welche Zigarre bzw. Herkunft ihm zusagt. Sicherlich wird bei manch einem angehenden Aficionado der Preis einer Zigarre ebenfalls eine Rolle spielen. Nicht jeder ist gewillt, direkt am Anfang über 30 € für eine Superpremium-Zigarre auszugeben. Daher werden sich in meinen Empfehlungen viele verschiedene, jedoch qualitativ sehr gute Zigarren aus unterschiedlichen Ländern und aus unterschiedlichen Preisklassen finden.

  Schöne, milde Zigarre mit einem interessanten Aromenspektrum. Leder, Espresso, Vanille.
• H. Upmann - Half Corona (Kuba)
  Erdig, ledrig, jedoch gleichzeitig cremig. Mild bis mittelkräftig.
• Montecristo - Open Regata (Kuba)
  Typische Kuba-Aromen nach Holz, Erde und Leder. Mild.
• VegaFina - Corona (Dominikanische Republik)
  Milde Zigarre mit cremig-holzigen Aromen, zusätzlich nussig-süß mit floralen Noten.
• Villa Zamorano - Robusto (Honduras)
  Sehr cremige Zigarre mit milden Aromen nach Kaffee, Nüssen und Mandeln. Mild.

Wer darüber hinaus noch weitere anfängertaugliche Zigarren probieren möchte, dem seien folgende Zigarren empfohlen:

  Kakao- und Kaffeearomen, weiterhin florale Aromen. Sehr mild.
• Hoyo de Monterrey - Epicure Nr. 1 (Kuba)
  Neben den kubatypischen Aromen dominieren hier grasige Noten. Mild.
• Monte Pascoal - Corona (Brasil)
  Leicht herbe Zigarre mit holzigen Aromen und leicht bitteren Aromen nach Hopfen und schwarzem Tee. Mild.
• Padron Classic - Panetela natural (Nicaragua)
  Cremig mit Aromen nach Leder und Nougat. Mittelkräftig.
• Por Larrañaga - Panetela (Kuba)
  Erde und Holz mit cremig-süßen und nussigen Komponenten. Mild bis mittelkräftig.
• Maria Mancini Postre de Banquete - No. 7 Corona (Honduras)
  Aromatisch-würzig mit einer leichten Säure. Mittelkräftig.

Meine allererste Zigarre war übrigens ein kubanische Cohiba - Siglo II.

Cigars suitable for beginners

In various forums, the question of cigars suitable for beginners appears again and again at regular intervals. And I am also regularly asked which cigars I would recommend to a beginner.

First of all, I would like to point out that this is my personal opinion, in addition to which there are many other, sometimes contradictory assessments.

Despite many other advisors, I do not believe that a beginner should always start with a very mild but thick cigar from the Dominican Republic. Rather, I believe that a prospective cigar smoker should first get a small overview of the different aroma spectra of the different countries of origin. Even if he cannot differentiate the individual flavours yet, he can certainly distinguish which cigar or origin appeals to him. The price of a cigar will certainly also play a role for some aspiring aficionados. Not everyone is willing to spend more than 30 € for a super premium cigar right at the beginning. Therefore, in my recommendations you will find many different, but qualitatively very good cigars from different countries and from different price ranges.

After work today I smoke a cigar, I have taken at my local dealer some time ago.

First, it is striking that the smoked cigar is rolled extremely strong. Such a hard cuban cigar I would not have bought for sure, but this here draws excellent. In this point, the Cubans can learn something. As much as I appreciate the traditional manufacturing by hand, here offers the Lieberman-machine a real benefits. But the passionados argue whether this is still "Totalmante a mano".

Zum Feierabend gönne ich mir heute eine Zigarre, die ich mir einfach mal auf gut Glück bei meinem Stammhändler mitgenommen habe.

Zuerst fällt auf, dass das gerauchte Exemplar knüppelhart gerollt ist. Eine derart harte kubanische Zigarre hätte ich mit Sicherheit nicht gekauft. Aber diese hier zieht hervorragend. Da können die Kubaner noch etwas lernen. So sehr ich die traditionelle Fertigung schätze, hier bietet die Lieberman-Maschine echte Vorteile. Hier streiten sich allerdings die Passionados, ob das dann noch "Totalmante a mano" ist.

The Aromerverlauf the rather mild cigar becomes quite linear, contrary to the expectation. The basic flavors I would describe with bitter oak bark with some clay and hops. Despite all mildness rather spicy bitter notes dominate. Furthermore, noticeable aromas of strong black tea and a little thyme.

Especially I like to mention the very beautiful ash. Almost snow white with beautiful surface and good stability.

Der Aromerverlauf der recht milden Zigarre gestaltet sich entgegen der Erwartung recht linear. Die Grundaromen würde ich mit herber Eichenrinde mit etwas Lehmboden und Hopfen beschreiben. Trotz aller Milde dominieren eher würzige Bitternoten. Weiterhin sind Aromen nach starkem, schwarzen Tee und etwas Thymian feststellbar.

Besonders aufgefallen ist mir allerdings die besonders schöne Asche. Fast schneeweiß mit schöner Oberfläche und einer guten Stabilität.
