From time to time I post some of my blog tastings in various cigar forums. Including the Australian forum "Friends of Habanos".
In that forum, as part of my Elephantes tasting, a small exchange arose about cigars made by Reynaldo. In the course of which Nino (from "Nino's Flying Cigar") invited me to the pharmacy to have a small tasting of Reynaldo's cigars. In the forum they even spoke already of an epic tasting.
Earlier this week it came to the meeting of the giants at the pharmacy. Refers, of course, the gigantic cigars of Reynaldo. Nino had brought Rodolfo and Salomones each from Feb. 2008.
While Nino started the evening with the Rodolfo, I chose the Salomones. And as so often in such epic moments one enjoys the moments and the cigar without any comprehensive tasting workout. However, I would like to describe a few of my impressions.

Von Zeit zu Zeit poste ich einzelne Tastings meines Blogs auch in verschiedenen Zigarrenforen. Unter anderem auch in das australische Forum
"Friends of Habanos".
Dort entstand dann im Rahmen meines
Elephantes-Tasting ein kleiner Austausch über Zigarren von Reynaldo. In dessen Verlauf Nino (von
"Nino's Flying Cigar") mich in
DIE Apotheke nach Wörrstadt einlud, um ein kleines Reynaldo-Tasting zu veranstalten. Im Forum sprach man sogar schon von einem epischen Tasting.
Anfang der Woche kam es dann zum Treffen der Giganten in der Apotheke. Gemeint sind natürlich die gigantischen Zigarren von Reynaldo. Nino hatte Rodolfos und Salomones jeweils aus Feb. 2008 mitgebracht.
Während Nino mit einer Rodolfo in den Abend startete, entschied ich mich für die Salomones. Und wie so oft bei solch epischen Momenten genießt man den Augenblick und die Zigarre, ohne ein umfangreiches Tasting zu erarbeiten. Dennoch möchte ich ein paar meiner Eindrücke schildern.

Reynaldo Gonzalez - Salomones (2008)
In my tasting of the Elephantes I wrote that Reynaldo's cigars are very strong in nicotine. Oddly enough this is not true in case of that Salomones (photo right). We were not sure whether the cigar is based on a milder blend, or whether the strength could have been reduced so much during the last 5,5 years. In any case, the cigar was an absolute delight.
This cigar was creamy and round in flavor. Simultaneously, the cigar had an incredible depth and complexity. Flavors of walnut and warm autumn foliage.
There are also mild and woody flavors such as beech. Dark chocolate completes the flavor picture. A great cigar for a leisurely afternoon. Perhaps with a glass of rum. In total, the cigar reminded me of a San Cristobal from the early 2007th.
In meinem Tasting über die
Elephantes habe ich geschrieben, dass Reynaldo's Zigarren sehr nikotinstark sind. Seltsamer Weise traf das auf die Salomones (im Foto rechts) nicht zu. Wir waren nicht sicher, ob die Zigarre von sich aus auf einer milderen Mischung beruht oder ob die Stärke in 5,5 Jahren bereits so sehr abbauen werden konnte. Auf jeden Fall war die Zigarre ein absoluter Hochgenuss.
Diese Zigarre war sahnig und rund im Geschmack. Gleichzeitig wies die Zigarre eine unglaubliche Tiefe und Komplexität auf. Aromen von Walnuss und warmen Herbstlaub. Dazu mild-holzig nach Buche. Dunkle Schokolade rundet das Aromabild ab.
Eine tolle Zigarre für einen gemütlichen Nachmittag. Vielleicht mit einem Gläschen Rum. Insgesamt erinnerte mich die Zigarre sehr stark an eine San Cristobal aus Anfang 2007.
Reynaldo Gonzalez - Rodolfo (2008)
The second cigar of the evening was the Rodolfo. This appeared to be even milder than the Salomones. A fact which irritated me completely.
The Rodolfo starts with clear honey flavors that remain constant over the entire duration of smoking. Also a flavor that I would not necessarily expect from a cigar by Reynaldo. The same applies to the gingerbread flavor which was subtly, but clearly perceptible. Other flavors were sweet aromas of roasted almonds and roasted hazelnuts. A spicy component was formed by espresso, chestnut and green tea. White pepper then made the final kick.
Als zweite Zigarre des Abends wurde die Rodolfo entzündet. Diese erschien dann noch milder als die Salomones. Eine Tatsache, die mich völlig irritierte.
Die Rodolfo startet mit deutlichen Honig-Aromen, die über die gesamte Rauchdauer erhalten bleiben. Ebenfalls ein Aroma, welches ich nicht unbedingt bei einer Zigarre von Reynaldo erwartet hätte. Gleiches gilt für das Lebkuchenaroma, welches zwar dezent, aber dennoch deutlich wahrnehmbar war. Weitere Aromen waren süße Röstaromen nach gebrannten Mandeln und gerösteten Haselnüssen. Eine würzige Komponente wurde durch Espresso, Marone und grünen Tee gebildet. Weißer Pfeffer bildete dann den letzten Kick.
In the end I can only say: Thank you Nino for the cigars and thank you Andreas for the pharmacy as a perfect location. It was a great ans.
Am Ende kann ich nur sagen: Danke Nino für die Zigarren und danke Andreas für die Apotheke als eine perfekte Rauchlokation. Es war ein toller ANS.
