Optics / Optik:
As used to be the case with the ELs, the Robusto Extra has a coffee-brown maduro-coloured wrapper. It has an extremely oily and fatty appearance. Although some thicker leaf veins are visible, the cigar appears very appetizing and appealing.

Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
At first I perceive mildly spicy tobacco notes, which are joined by smells of freshly roasted hazelnut and some caramel. Furthermore I detect aromas of milk chocolate, freshly sawn wood and a slightly floral note.

Zuerst nehme ich mild-würzige Tabaknoten wahr, zu denen sich Gerüche nach frisch geröteter Haselnuss und etwas Karamell gesellen. Weiterhin stelle ich Aromen nach Milchschokolade, frisch gesägtem Holz und eine leicht blumige Note fest.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
As you would expect from an 11 year old Habano, the cigar is very round and balanced. The first third is dominated by wooden aromas and a distinct coffee note. This harmonises very well with the aromas of creamy caramel, which are especially noticeable retronasally.

Wie bei einer 11 Jahre alten Habano zu erwarten ist die Zigarre sehr rund und ausgewogen. Im ersten Drittel dominieren Holzaromen und eine deutliche Kaffeenote. Diese harmoniert sehr gut mit den Aromen nach Sahnekaramell, die besonders retronasal feststellbar sind.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
Towards the middle, nutty aromas increase, while the sweet caramel decreases. The wooden notes, typical of the brand, remain present. I also detect aromas of mediterranean herbs.

Zur Mitte hin nehmen eher nussige Aromen zu, während das süße Karamell zurückgeht. Die markentypischen Holznoten weiterhin präsent bleiben. Zusätzlich stelle ich Aromen nach mediterranen Kräutern fest.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
In the last third the cigar, which has been medium strong up to now, becomes noticeably stronger. The sweet aromas are further reduced in favour of light leather aromas. Nevertheless, the wooden aromas still dominate, which remind me of old oak wood here. In addition I notice roasted aromas of freshly ground coffee beans, which continuously increase on the last part.
The cigar is balanced over the whole smoke, very round and very tasty.

Im letzten Drittel wird die bisher mittelkräftige Zigarre merklich kräftiger. Die süßen Aromen nehmen sich zugunsten von leichten Lederaromen weiter zurück. Coldsmell / Kaltgeruch:
Lightly floral (summer flowers), chocolate flavors, in the background some cedar wood.
Leicht floral (Sommerblüten), Schokoaromen, im Hintergrund etwas Zedernholz.

Impressions / Eindrücke
The cigar starts yummy aromatic. Slightly sweet, with tart aromas of oak.
During the further course chocolate flavors and bit of acid can be detected. The cigar is profound and very tasty.
The flavors partly reminiscent of of marzipan. These impressions maintained until the end, although the sweetness decreases continuously from the beginning.
Die Zigarre startet lecker aromatisch. Leicht süßlich mit herben Holzaromen.
Im weiteren Verlauf sind Schokoaromen und eine minimale Säure feststellbar. Die Zigarre ist tiefgründig und sehr lecker.
Teilweise erinnern die Aromen an Marzipan. Diese Eindrücke halten bis zum Ende an, auch wenn die Süße vom Anfang kontinuierlich abnimmt.

Strong maduro, shiny greasy wrapper with a fine veining. Perfect and extremely attractive appearance.

Kräftiges Maduro, glänzend speckiges Deckblatt mit einer feinen Aderung. Perfektes und äußerst ansprechendes Äußeres.

Coldsmell / Kaltgeruch:
In the coldsmell literally sweet. Roasted almonds in the foreground. Furthermore, fresh hazelnuts and nougat. But also a little black pepper. Very attractive.

Im Kaltgeruch regelrecht süß. Gebrannte Mandeln im Vordergrund. Weiterhin frische Haselnüsse und Nougat. Aber auch etwas schwarzer Pfeffer. Sehr ansprechend.

Nichts desto trotz bleibt die Zigarre ausgesprochen würzig und komplex.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
Even towards the end the cigar loses none of their appeal. Although it is difficult to identify individual flavors, the complexity of aromas makes sure that every draw tastes a little different.

Auch zum Ende hin verliert die Zigarre nichts von ihrer Attraktivität. Auch wenn es mir schwer fällt, einzelne Aromen herauszustellen, sorgt die Komplexität dafür, dass jeder Zug etwas anders schmeckt. Eine bemerkenswert gute Zigarre.

Puros in Palma

I spent a few days in Palma de Mallorca. Beside Cigars of the standard series, also a few local Ediciones Regionales and Ediciones Limitadas were smoked. Some of them during the public viewing of the current soccer-championship.

Ich war für ein paar Tage in Palma de Mallorca unterwegs. Neben Standardzigarren wurden natürlich auch lokale Ediciones Regionales und Ediciones Limitadas geraucht. Einige während des Public Viewings der aktuellen Fußball-Weltbeisterschaft.

Optics / Optik:
The cigar has a beautiful, greasy colorado wrapper. It has a fine structure without significant veins. Unfortunately, a few bumps from the used binder are visible. Nevertheless, the cigar looks very appetizing.

Die Zigarre hat ein wunderschönes, speckiges Colorado-Deckblatt. Es hat eine feine Struktur ohne nennenswerte Adern. Leider drücken sich ein paar Unebenheiten vom verwendeten Umblatt durch. Dennoch wirkt die Zigarre äußerst appetitlich.

Coldsmell / Kaltgeruch
The first thing I notice flowery aromas that remind me of roses. The rest of the flavors fade into the background. Aromas of freshly roasted hazelnut and slightly woody aromas form a pleasant contrast to the superficial sweetness.

Als erstes fallen mir blumige Aromen auf, die mich an Rosen erinnern. Die restlichen Aromen treten dem gegenüber in den Hintergrund. Hier bilden Aromen nach frisch gerösteter Haselnuss und leicht holzige Aromen einen angenehmen Kontrast zur vordergründigen Süße.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
The small EL starts right neat. Strong woody aromas dominate from the beginning and remind you of sawdust. I'm inspired by a nutty component like chestnut.

Die kleine EL startet direkt ordentlich durch. Kräftig holzige Aromen dominieren von Anfang an und erinnern an Sägespäne. Dazu kommt eine nussige Komponente nach Kastanie.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
Even in the middle part, the Cuban not deny their origins. The wood flavors are replaced by spicy aromas of leather and hazelnut shell. Medium-strong aromas of toast and black tea form an aromatic component.

Auch im mittleren Teil kann die Kubanerin ihre Herkunft nicht verleugnen. Die Holzaromen werden durch würzige Aromen nach Leder und Haselnussschale abgelöst. Mittelstarke Röstaromen und schwarzer Tee bilden eine aromatische Komponente.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
Toward the end, woody and earthy flavors dominate again. Here, however, they appear much drier. Also the leather aroma from the middle part can be found here in a dry expression.

Zum Ende hin dominieren wieder holzig-erdige Aromen. Hier erscheinen sie jedoch deutlich trockener. Aber auch das Lederaroma aus dem Mittelteil findet sich hier in einer trockenen Ausprägung.

Burning, ash / Abbrand, Asche:
The cigar burned slightly wrong. Only in the last third had to be lit from time to time. Here the wrapper had slightly reduced fire properties.

Über die mittelgraue, minimal rissige Asche ist nicht viel zu sagen. Sie war von guter Stabilität und auch sonst erwartungsgemäß.

No doubt, the D No. 5 is a typical cuban Cigar and a worthy cigar to celebrate today the World No Tobacco Day 2013.

Keine Frage, die D No. 5 ist eine typische Kubanerin und eine würdige Zigarre, um den heutigen Weltnichtrauchertag 2013 zu begehen.

Cohiba - Sublimes EL 2004

Optics / Optik:
As expected, the cigar presented in a nice and smooth wrapper. Maduro colored, slightly greasy and with fine veins. The wrapper has a very seductive look.

Erwartungsgemäß präsentiert sich die Zigarre in einem schönen und gleichmäßigen Deckblatt. Madurofarben, leicht speckig und mit feinen Adern bietet das Deckblatt einen sehr verführerischen Anblick.

Coldsmell / Kaltgeruch:
In cold condition the cigar exudes a mild nutty smell. Slight herbal notes give a pleasant spiciness. Additional to that woody flavors like beech and fresh sawdust were added.

Im kalten Zustand verströmt die Zigarre einen mild nussigen Geruch, dem leichte Kräuternoten eine angenehme Würzigkeit mitgeben. Dazu kommen holzige Aromen nach Buche und frischen Sägespänen.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
The typical Cuban Sublime starts with aromas of wood, but it also has a distinct touch of sweetness like caramel, hazelnut and marzipan.

Die Sublimes startet typisch kubanisch recht hölzern, weist aber auch einen deutlichen Süßetouch nach Karamell, Noisette und Marzipan auf.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
Expecting the age the cigar shows itself very balanced. Flavors of sweet wood alternating with bitter herbs. What may sound strange, is an extremely delicious tension, which can appear slightly different impressions at each draw.

Dem Alter entsprechend zeigt sich die Zigarre sehr ausgewogen. Aromen von süßem Holz wechseln sich mit herben Kräutern ab. Was sich vielleicht seltsam anhört, ist am Gaumen ein äußerst leckeres Spannungsfeld, was jeden Zug etwas anders erscheinen lässt.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
Toward the end, the Cohiba is again significantly more aromatic. Oak and rosemary, additional strong marzipan aromas and light mint.

Zum Ende hin legt die Cohiba noch einmal kräftig zu. Eiche und Rosmarin, dazu kräftige Marzipanaromen und leichte Minze.

Burning, ash / Abbrand, Asche:
Typical cuban the cigar burns light wrong which is not bad, but also not nice.
The blue-gray ash has a very good stability. It forms a slightly cracked surface and is slightly grainy.

Kubatypisch stellt sich ein leichter Schiefbrand ein, der zwar nicht schlimm, aber unschön ist.
Die blaugraue Asche verfügt über eine sehr gute Stabilität. Sie bildet eine leicht rissige Oberfläche aus und ist minimal gekörnt.

Conclusion / Fazit:
A very balanced and rounded cigar. Partly still somewhat edgy during the course of flavors. In my opinion, it can mature a few more years without any problems.

Eine sehr ausgewogene und runde Zigarre. Teilweise noch etwas kantig im Aromenverlauf kann sie ohne Probleme noch weitere Jahre reifen.
