Optics / Optik:
If the banderole were not the old design, this cigar could also be considered one from the current production. The beautiful, colorado-colored wrapper appears evenly greasy and has a nice shine. In contrast to other Habanos from the tubes, only a few leaf veins disturb the flawless appearance.

Wäre nicht das alte Design der Anila, könnte man die Zigarre auch für eine aus der aktuellen Produktion halten. Das schöne, coloradofarbene Deckblatt wirkt gleichmäßig speckig und weist einen schönen Glanz auf. Im Gegensatz zu anderen Habanos aus dem Tubo stören nur wenige Blattadern da an sich makellose Äußere.

Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
As soon as you open the tube, a beguiling scent of wood and dark chocolate streams towards you. And a sweet component reminiscent of fresh pancakes and dried fruit. An amazingly present smell for a 13-year-old cigar.

Bereits beim Öffnen des Tubos strömt einem ein betörender Duft nach Holz und dunkler Schokolade entgegen. Dazu eine süße Komponente, die an frische Pfannkuchen und Trockenobst erinnert. Ein erstaunlich präsenter Geruch für eine 13 Jahre alte Zigarre.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
Typical Montecristo, the long corona starts eliciously woody and leathery. Due to the age of the cigar, these are already somewhat softened and integrate themselves harmoniously into the overall picture of the cigar. In the background I notice a hint of hazelnut and some garden herbs.

Typisch Montecristo startet die lange Corona lecker holzig und ledrig. Durch has Alter der Zigarre sind diese jedoch schon etwas abgemildert und gliedern sich harmonisch in das Gesamtbild der Zigarre ein. Im Hintergrund stelle ich eine Andeutung von Haselnuss und ein paar Gartenkräutern fest.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
In the middle part, the nut aromas become somewhat more prominent and support the leather note that dominates here. Wonderfully round with a nice depth.

Im mittleren Teil treten die Nussaromen etwas mehr hervor und unterstützen die hier dominierende Ledernote. Wunderbar rund mit einer schönen Tiefe.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
The leather note increases again in the last third. Here the slightly bitter tannic notes from the wood have a supporting effect. The nut aromas have disappeared in favour of an espresso aroma. The result is a harmoniously balanced aroma.

Die Ledernote nimmt im letzten Drittel noch einmal zu. Hier wirken die leicht bitteren Gerbstoffnoten aus dem Holz unterstützend. Die Nussaromen sind zugunsten eines Espressoaromas verschwunden. Es zeigt sich ein harmonisch ausbalanciertes Aromenbild.

Conclusion / Fazit:
A great harmonious cigar. Typical Montecristo aromas from the year 2007, which is my favourite one.

Eine tolle harmonische Zigarre. Typische Montecristo-Aromen aus dem von mir sehr bevorzugten Jahr 2007.

Por Larrañaga - Lonsdales ER Alemania (2007)

Optics / Optik:
The elegant Lonsdale shows itself in a classic colorado. Over the years the wrapper has lost some of its shine, making it look a little dull. It has a fine structure with only a few, hardly visible leaf veins.

Die elegante Lonsdale zeigt sich in einem klassischen Colorado. Im Laufe der Jahre hat das Deckblatt etwas von seinem Glanz verloren, sodass es etwas matt wirkt. Es weist eine feine Struktur mit nur wenigen, kaum sichtbaren Blattadern auf.

Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
At first I perceive a smell that reminds me of very old wood. In the background a slightly flowery note resonates. Next to it I find light scents of leather, orchid and honey.

Zuerst nehme ich einen Geruch wahr, der mich an sehr altes Holz erinnert. Im Hintergrund schwingt eine leicht blumige Note mit. Daneben finde ich leichte Gerüche nach Leder, Orchidee und Honig.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
The cigar starts quite nutty and mildly woody. Aromas of white coffee and caramel finish up the sweet start. Already in fresh condition the cigar was round and creamy and has improved in this respect over the years.

Die Zigarre startet recht nussig und mild-holzig. Aromen von Milchkaffee und Karamell runden den süßen Beginn ab. Obwohl schon jung rund und cremig, so hat sie sich diesbezüglich nochmal deutlich gesteigert.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
The creamy foundation of milk coffee and caramel remains dominant even in the middle section. The aromas are complemented by a subtle spiciness of garden herbs. Furthermore, the first wood aromas appear.

Das cremige Fundament aus Milchkaffee und Karamell bleibt auch im mittleren dominierend. Ergänzt werden die Aromen durch eine hintergründige Würzigkeit nach Gartenkräutern. Weiterhin tauchen erste Holzaromen auf.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
In the last third the sweetness decreases more and more. Instead, the woody aromas continue and come to the foreground. The aromas of garden herbs are also more noticeable here. In addition, the coffee aromas, which are also still present, fit very well.

Im letzten Drittel nimmt sich die Süße weiter zurück. Dafür treten die Holzaromen weiter in den Vordergrund. Die Aromen von Gartenkräutern sind ebenfalls hier deutlicher feststellbar. Ergänzend passen die ebenfalls noch vorhandenen Kaffeearomen sehr gut.

Conclusion / Fazit:
A great cigar that has become better and better over the years.

Eine tolle Zigarre, die im Laufe der Jahre immer besser geworden ist.

San Cristobal - El Morro (2007)

Optics / Optik:
The juicy Maduro wrapper looks oily and greasy. It leaves almost a slightly sticky impression.

Das saftige Maduro-Deckblatt wirkt ölig und speckig. Es macht fast schon einen etwas klebrigen Eindruck.

Coldsmell / Kaltgeruch:
In contrast to the very appetizing appearance, the coldsmell is kind of boring. A little nutty chocolate, maybe milk. Otherwise only dry straw. Very disappointing.

Im Gegensatz zum sehr appetitlichen Aussehen, ist der Kaltgeruch recht langweilig. Ein wenig nussige Schokolade, vielleicht auch Milch. Sonst nur trockenes Stroh. Sehr enttäuschend.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
The cigar starts quite sweet. Significant aromas of caramel, hazelnut and milk chocolate dominate the first third. Furthermore hazelnut and cream. Overall, very creamy. There are also, unusual for a cigar, fruity aromas reminiscent of fresh raspberries. A grandiose start.

Die Zigarre startet recht süßlich. Deutliche Aromen von Karamell, Noisette und Milchschokolade dominieren im ersten Drittel. Weiterhin Haselnuss und Sahne. Insgesamt sehr cremig. Dazu kommen, für eine Zigarre ungewöhnlich, fruchtige Aromen, die an frische Himbeeren erinnern. Ein grandioser Start.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
Halfway down the cigar remains cloying and creamy. Slightly woody, spicy, in combination with bitter herbs. Herb notes are playing an increasing role.

Zur Hälfte hin bleibt die Zigarre süßlich und cremig. Jedoch kommen zunehmend auch herbe Noten ins Spiel. Leicht holzig, würzig, in Kombination mit herben Kräutern.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
Toward the end, bitter herbal notes comes present. The cigar becomes spicier, the prominent sweetness is almost completely gone. Therefore typical Cuban flavors are brought to the fore. Delicious woody with flavors, that reminiscent of thick saddle leather. Then as a finale, as so often, clear flavors of marzipan. Sweet and very aromatic with hints of bitter almond.

Die herben Kräuternoten nehmen zum Ende hin zu. Die Zigarre wird würziger, die vorstechende Süße ist fast vollständig verschwunden. Dafür sind typisch kubanische Aromen in den Vordergrund gerückt. Lecker holzig mit Aromen, die an dickes Sattlerleder erinnern. Als Finale dann, wie so oft, deutliche Marzipanaromen. Süß und hocharomatisch mit Anklängen von Bittermandel.

Burning, ash / Abbrand, Asche:
The ash is finely cracked, slightly flaky and light gray in color. It has a good stability.

Die Asche ist fein rissig, minimal flockig und von hellgrauer Farbe. Sie weist eine gute Stabilität auf.

Conclusion / Fazit:
The cigar impressed from the beginning with a beautiful, varied bouquet of aromas. Very exciting and full and perfectly balanced. Despite the complexity of the cigar, it never overwhelmed the smoker, so it represents also a recommendation to a less experienced smoker.

The San Cristobal - El Morro (Boxing ABR07) was one of the tastiest cigars, which I was allowed to smoke in the recent times. Too bad that this was the last cigar from the box.

Die Zigarre begeistert von Anfang an durch ein schönes, abwechslungsreiches Aromenspiel. Äußerst abwechslungsreich und spannend und perfekt ausbalanciert. Trotz der Komplexität überfordert die Zigarre zu keinem Zeitpunkt, wodurch sie auf für einen wenig geübten Raucher eine Empfehlung darstellt.

Die San Cristobal - El Morro (Boxing ABR07) war eine der leckersten Zigarren, welche ich in der letzten Zeit rauchen durfte. Schade, dass dies die letzte Zigarre aus der Kiste war.

Montecristo - Especiales No. 2 (Mai 2007)

Optics / Optik:
The cigar is dressed in a classic Colorado. The perfect wrapper has only minimal veins. Very smooth, slightly greasy surface.

Die Zigarre kleidet sich in ein klassisches colorado. Das perfekte Deckblatt weist nur eine minimale Aderung auf. Sehr gleichmäßige, leicht speckige Oberfläche.

Coldsmell / Kaltgeruch:
An almost christmassy coldsmell. Milk chocolate, cinnamon and hazelnut. Additional a spicy flavor which is reminding of rich, dark chocolate.

Ein fast schon weihnachtlicher Kaltgeruch. Milchschokolade, etwas Zimt und Haselnuss. Dazu ein würziger Hauch, der an kräftige, dunkle Schokolade erinnert.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
The cigar starts nutty and sweet. This confirms the coldsmell. But at the same time also spicy, with a share of roasted flavors. On the palate it presents itself pleasantly creamy.

Die Zigarre startet dem Kaltgeruch entspreched nussig und süßlich. Gleichzeitig aber auch würzig mit einem Anteil von Röstaromen. Am Gaumen präsentiert sie sich angenehm cremig.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
Also to the middle it stays spicy with mild roast and herb flavors. At the same time flavors of white pepper appear. These go very well with a buttery, light caramel sweetness

Auch zur Mitte hin bleibt sie mit leichte Röst- und Kräuteraromen würzig. Dazukommende Aromen von weißer Pfeffer harmonieren sehr gut mit einer buttrigen, leichten Karamellsüße.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
Towards the end the elegant cigar becomes more and more strength.
In addition to strong aromatic spices such as black pepper and herbs, are now wood flavors more into the foreground.

Gegen Ende legt die elegante Zigarre noch einmal kräftig zu.
Neben kräftig-aromatischen Gewürzen wie z. B. schwarzer Pfeffer und Kräuter, treten nun hölzern Aromen mehr in den Vordergrund.

Burning, ash / Abbrand, Asche:
The Especiales No. 2 forms a very stable ash. The grainy, light gray ash shows an streaky, cracked surface.
Beautiful, even burning.

Die Especiales No. 2 bildet eine sehr stabile Asche aus. Die körnige, hellgraue Asche zeigt eine streifige, rissige Oberfläche.
Schöner, gleichmäßiger Abbrand.

Conclusion / Fazit:
A very elegant format. In my opinion, this 5 years old Long Panatela is in a wonderfully spicy climax. For the future, I still see a significant aging-potential. If possible deposits!

Ein sehr elegantes Format. Mit einem Alter von 5 Jahren ist diese Long Panatela meines Erachtens auf einem herrlich würzigen Höhepunkt. Allerdings auch für die Zukunft sehe ich noch ein deutliches Potential. Wenn möglich: einlagen!
