First impression / Erster Eindruck:
With its "size", the cigar seems downright cute and more like a cigarillo. But it is actually a handmade longfiller. The classic colourado wrapper has a fine structure and barely visible veins.
The cold smell is just as appealing as the appearance. Mild nutty with smells of milky coffee and some cedar wood.

Mit ihrer „Größe“ wirkt die Zigarre regelrecht niedlich und eher wie ein Zigarillo. Aber es handelt sich tatsächlich um einen handgefertigten Longfiller. Das klassisch coloradofarbene Deckblatt ist von feiner Struktur und weist kaum sichtbare Adern auf.
Ebenso ansprechend wie die Optik ist der Kaltgeruch. Mild nussig mit Gerüchen nach Milchkaffee und etwas Zedernholz.

1st half / 1. Hälfte:
Cubatypically the cigar starts earthy with aromas of cedar wood and some cinnamon bark. At the age of seven, the small cigar has already matured wonderfully and is top notch in taste.

Kubatypisch startet die Zigarre erdig mit Aromen von Zedernholz und etwas Zimtrinde. Mit ihren sieben Jahren ist die kleine Zigarre schon wunderbar gereift und geschmacklich topp.

2nd half / 2. Hälfte:
Also in the 2nd half the woody aromas remain. Here, however, rather flowery notes dominate after roses, some vanilla. It is always astonishing for me how much aroma fits into such a small cigar.

Auch in der 2ten Hälfte bleiben die holzigen Aromen erhalten. Hier dominieren jedoch eher blumige Noten nach Rose etwas Vanille. Es ist für mich immer wieder erstaunlich, wie viel Aroma in eine so kleine Zigarre passt.

H. Upmann - Half Corona (2012)

Optics / Optik:
Optically a (nearly) flawless appearance. Only on the reverse side the beautiful, greasy wrapper shows a green fermentation spot. The low veining does not disturb the attractive appearance of the maduro-coloured cigar.

Optisch eine (fast) makellose Erscheinung. Lediglich auf der Rückseite weist das schöne, speckige Deckblatt einen grünen Fermentationsfleck auf. Die geringe Äderung stört die ansprechende Optik der madurofarbenen Zigarre nicht.

Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
In the first moment the cold smell seems quite cocoa-like to me. A floral note reminds me of the scent of roses. Altogether a rather sweet cold smell. In the background I notice a slight smell of cedar wood.

Im ersten Moment erscheint mir der Kaltgeruch recht kakaolastig. Eine blumige Note erinnert mich an Rosenduft. Insgesamt ein eher süßlicher Kaltgeruch. Im Hintergrund nehme ich einen leichter Geruch nach Zedernholz wahr.

1st half / 1. Hälfte:
The small cigar starts with beautiful, delicious Cuban flavours. Strongly woody, with aromas of leather and some loamy soil. At the same time sweet-aromatic with aromas that remind me of orchids. Light aromas in the background evoke the association of hazelnut-cream cake. Honestly.

Die kleine Zigarre startet mit schönen, leckeren Kubaaromen. Kräftig holzig, mit Aromen nach Leder und etwas Lehmboden. Gleichzeitig jedoch süß-aromatisch mit Aromen, die mich an Orchideen erinnern. Leichte Aromen im Hintergrund rufen in mir die Assoziation nach Haselnuss-Sahne-Torte hervor. Ehrlich.

2nd half / 2. Hälfte:
Towards the end, the cake aromas disappear again and the wood aromas become clearer. While these reminded me of beech in the beginning, I now perceive cedar wood aromas. Surprisingly, the cigar seems increasingly milder, which irritates me a bit. In addition to thew aromas of fat cream and forest soil I find some cork.

Gegen Ende verschwindet das Tortenarome wieder und die Holzaromen werden deutlicher . Während diese mich am Anfang eher an Buche erinnerten, nehme ich nun Zedernholzaromen wahr. Erstaunlicherweise wirkt die Zigarre zunehmend milder, was mich etwas irritiert. An weiteren Aromen finde ich neben fetter Sahne und Waldboden etwas Kork.

Montecristo - Open Regata (2012)

Optics / Optik:
Like all cigars from this box, this one is also very appealing. The silky shimmering, classic maduro-coloured wrapper has only a few veins. A few specky spots underline the positive impression.

Wie alle Zigarren aus dieser Kiste, so ist auch diese sehr ansprechend. Das seidig schimmernde, klassische madurofarbene Deckblatt weist nur wenige Blattadern auf. Ein paar speckige Spots unterstreichen den positiven Eindruck.

Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
The first thing I notice is the smell of cedar wood. In addition a flowery-aromatic component, which reminds me of bath soap. In addition, there are other sweet aromas of roses and creamy caramel. As an addition, there are smells of fresh resin.

Als erstes stelle ich Zedernholzgeruch fest. Dazu eine blumig-aromatische Komponente, die mich an Badeschaum erinnert. Daneben sind weitere süßliche Aromen nach Rosen und Sahnekaramell feststellbar. Dazu noch Gerüche nach frischem Harz.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
The cigar starts directly very aromatic. I notice clear coffee aromas of cappuccino and freshly roasted coffee beans. At the same time, woody aromas and slightly earthy notes develop.

Die Zigarre startet direkt sehr aromatisch. Mir fallen deutliche Kaffeearomen nach Cappuccino und frisch gerösteten Kaffeebohnen auf. Parallel dazu entwickeln sich holzige Aromen und leicht erdige Noten.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
Towards the middle, the coffee aromas decrease significantly. I associate them here more with coffee grounds. Instead, the woody aromas come to the fore more and more. I feel reminded of fresh sawdust. In the background I find light aromas of frankincense and orchids.

Zur Mitte hin nehmen die Kaffeearomen deutlich ab. Ich assoziiere sie hier eher mit Kaffeesatz. Statt dessen treten die holzigen Aromen mehr und mehr in den Vordergrund. Ich fühle mich an frische Sägespäne erinnert. Im Hintergrund finde ich leichte Aromen nach Weihrauch und Orchideen.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
Towards the end the woody aromas increase again. The intensity increases continuously over the course of the smoke. There are also more and more earthy and leathery aromas. In the last third the small pyramid reminds me gradually of a classic, but still quite mild Montecristo. Nevertheless, a sweet component still remains.

Gegen Ende nehmen die holzigen Aromen nochmals zu. Über den Rauchverlauf findet hier eine kontinuierliche Steigerung der Intensität statt. Ebenso findenden sich hier mehr und mehr erdige und ledrige Aromen. Im letzten Drittel erinnert die kleine Pyramide mich immer mehr an eine klassische, jedoch immer noch recht milde Montecristo. Trotzdem bleibt auch hier eine süße Komponente weiterhin feststellbar.

Conclusion / Fazit:
As always a very good and aromatic cigar, which is fully suitable for beginners and does not overwhelm anyone. But also for experienced aficionados always a good choice.

Wie immer eine sehr gute und aromatische Zigarre, welche voll anfängertauglich ist und niemanden überfordert. Aber auch für erfahrene Aficionados immer eine gute Wahl.

Coldsmell / Kaltgeruch:
Very spicy cold-smell. Aromatic wood like cedar, sandalwood and pine. Somewhat fruity orange and menthol.

Sehr würziger Kaltgeruch. Aromatisch-hölzern nach Zeder, Sandelholz und Kiefer. Dazu etwas Menthol und fruchtige Orange.

Burning / Abbrand:
On the first 2 cm misalignment of fire, then an exemplary, even combustion.

Auf den ersten 2 cm Schiefbrand, dann mustergültiger, gleichmäßiger Abbrand.

Ash / Asche:
Very solid ash, light gray with a closed surface.

Sehr stabile Asche, hellgrau, geschlossene Oberfläche.

1. fifth / 1. Fünftel:
For a better description of the development of flavors, I switch from classical division into three sections to a subdivision into five sections.

Contrary to the spicy cold-smell the cigar starts very mild, but aromatic. The smoke is creamy and velvety. Milkchocolate and caramel candy flavor in a frame of peeled almonds and vanilla.

Um die Aromenentwicklung besser beschreiben zu können, weiche ich von der klassischen Dreiteilung ab und verwende ein Unterteilung in fünf Abschnitte.

Entgegen dem würzigen Kaltgeruch startet die Zigarre sehr mild, aber dennoch aromatisch. Der Rauch seigt sich sahnig und samtig. Milchkakao und Karamellbonbon in einem Aromarahmen aus geschälter Mandel und Vanille.

2. fifth / 2. Fünftel:
After the soft launch is the impression is creamy but slightly spicy with aromas of incense and balsa. This impression is complemented by herbs (parsley) and green pepper.

Nach dem sanften Start bleibt der sahnige Eindruck bestehen, wird aber etwas würziger mit Aromen von Weihrauch und Balsa. Dazu zeigen sich Kräuter-Noten (Petersilie) und grüner Pfeffer.

3. fifth / 3. Fünftel:
Towards the middle, the mild cigar is increasingly earthy. I sense something like "sweet grass" (no hash!). Very complex aromas.

Zur Mitte hin wird die bis hier hin recht milde Zigarre zunehmend erdiger. Man meint so etwas wie "süßes Gras" (kein Hasch!) zu erahnen. Sehr komplexes Aromenspiel.

4. fifth / 4. Fünftel:
The next section is a little stronger and slightly salty. Dry on the palate with tart flavors of green walnut and oak. But at the same time still creamy.

Es schließt sich ein etwas kräftiger, leicht salziger Abschnitt an. Trocken am Gaumen mit herben Aromen von grüner Walnuss und Eiche. Gleichzeitig aber immer noch cremig.

5. fifth / 5. Fünftel:
After a stronger interlude, the cigar is velvety and aromatic again. Clearly nutty of toasted hazelnut and black pepper. The final is completed with fresh mint aromas.

Nach dem etwas kräftigeren Zwischenspiel wird die Zigarre zum Ende hin wieder samtig-aromatisch.
Deutlich nussig nach geröstete Haselnuss und schwarzem Pfeffer. Finale wird dann mit frischen Minzaromen abgeschlossen.
