The remarkably boxpressed cigar has a matt, very finely structured maduro-coloured wrapper. The strikingly rough surface reminds me a bit of sandpaper. Nevertheless, the wrapper of these ten-year-old cigars has a certain residual oily firmness. It has to be considered that the tobacco of this cigar was already harvested in 1999...

Die deutlich boxpressed Zigarre weist ein mattes, sehr fein strukturiertes madurofarbenes Deckblatt auf. Die auffällig rauhe Oberfläche erinnert mich etwas an Schleifpapier. Dennoch weist das Deckblatt dieser zehnjährige Zigarren eine gewisse Restöligkeit auf. Dabei gilt es zu berücksichtigen, dass der Tabak dieser Zigarre bereits 1999 geerntet wurde...

Cold smell / Kaltgeruch:
In the cold smell I perceive aromas of dark bittersweet chocolate. In addition a slightly sweet wooden note of balsa wood and fresh sawdust. Rosemary and dried fruit complement the olfactory spectrum excellently.

Im Kaltgeruch nehme ich Aromen von dunkler Bitterschokolade wahr. Dazu eine leicht süßliche Holznote nach Balsaholz und frischen Sägespänen. Rosmarin und Trockenobst ergänzen das Geruchsspektrum vorzüglich.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
The cigar starts with nutty aromas of chestnut and freshly roasted hazelnut. The aromas of cappuccino and honey go very well with this. Herbal notes form a pleasant, spicy contrast. Aromatic and complex.

Die Zigarre startet mit nussigen Aromen nach Marone und frisch gerösteter Haselnuss. Dazu passen sehr gut die Aromen nach Cappuccino und Honig. Kräuternoten bilden dazu einen angenehm-würzigen Kontrast. Aromatisch und komplex.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
Later, the aromas of aromatic spicy herbs, roasted hazelnuts and honey are complemented by medium roasted aromas. Noisette and dark chocolate form a sweet-herb component, which is rounded off with aromas of black tea.

Im weiteren Verlauf kommen zu den Aromen von aromatisch-würzigen Kräutern, geröstete Haselnüsse und Honig mittlere Röstaromen hinzu. Noisette und Bitterschokolade bilden eine süß-herbe Komponente, die mit Aromen nach schwarzem Tee abgerundet wird.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
The aromatic-spicy component also dominates the last third. The cigar develops woody aromas, which integrate wonderfully into the interplay of aromas. The bitter aromatic aromas of espresso and dark chocolate go well with this. But black tea is also part of the game again.
Finally, aromatic dried fruit and leather form the finish of this great cigar.

Die aromatisch-würzige Komponente dominiert auch das letzte Drittel. Die Zigarre bildet holzige Aromen aus, die sich wunderbar in das Aromenspiel eingliedern. Hierzu passen die bitter-aromatischen Aromern nach Espresso und dunkler Schokolade. Aber auch schwarzer Tee ist wieder mit von der Partie.
Das Finale dieser tollen Zigarre bilden schließlich aromatisches Trockenobst und Leder.

Conclusion / Fazit:
That's a great cigar. Creamy with an enormous depth. You can argue about the price, but I think it's worth every dollar.

Eine tolle Zigarre. Cremig mit einer enormen Tiefe. Über den Preis kann man sicher streiten, aber ich finde, sie ist jeden Euro wert.

H. Upmann - Magnum 50 EL 2005

Optics / Optik:
Strong maduro, shiny greasy wrapper with a fine veining. Perfect and extremely attractive appearance.

Kräftiges Maduro, glänzend speckiges Deckblatt mit einer feinen Aderung. Perfektes und äußerst ansprechendes Äußeres.

Coldsmell / Kaltgeruch:
In the coldsmell literally sweet. Roasted almonds in the foreground. Furthermore, fresh hazelnuts and nougat. But also a little black pepper. Very attractive.

Im Kaltgeruch regelrecht süß. Gebrannte Mandeln im Vordergrund. Weiterhin frische Haselnüsse und Nougat. Aber auch etwas schwarzer Pfeffer. Sehr ansprechend.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
Despite a pronounced spiciness, the cigar begins very creamy. Very full flavor profile. Complex herb, black pepper (but without sharpness), some flint. In addition to that an earthy foundation.

Trotz einer ausgeprägten Würzigkeit, beginnt die Zigarre ausgesprochen cremig. Sehr volle Aromen. Komplexe Kräuter, schwarzer Pfeffer (jedoch ohne Schärfe), etwas Feuerstein. Dazu ein erdiges Fundament.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
Light bitter notes appear towards the middle, supporting very pleasant the recent aromas. A fairly distinct sweetness is added. However, woody flavors are now detectable.
Nevertheless the cigar remains very complex and spicy.

Zur Mitte hin treten leichte Bitternoten auf, welche die bisherigen Aromen sehr angenehm unterstützen. Dazu kommt eine recht deutliche Süße. Aber auch holzige Aromen sind nun feststellbar.
Nichts desto trotz bleibt die Zigarre ausgesprochen würzig und komplex.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
Even towards the end the cigar loses none of their appeal. Although it is difficult to identify individual flavors, the complexity of aromas makes sure that every draw tastes a little different.

Auch zum Ende hin verliert die Zigarre nichts von ihrer Attraktivität. Auch wenn es mir schwer fällt, einzelne Aromen herauszustellen, sorgt die Komplexität dafür, dass jeder Zug etwas anders schmeckt. Eine bemerkenswert gute Zigarre.

Ramón Allones - Belvederes (2003)

Optics / Optik:
Although the cigar was machine-made, the cigar has a very uniform wrapper with very low veins. The classic Colorado emphasizes the positive, visual impression.

Obwohl maschinengefertigt, besitzt die Zigarre ein sehr gleichmäßiges Deckblatt mit sehr wenig Adern. Das klassische Colorado unterstreicht den positiven, optischen Eindruck.

Coldsmell / Kaltgeruch
The unlit cigar smells remarkably sweet. Especially aromas of milk chocolate are remarkably strong. These are complemented by toasted hazelnuts and baked plums.

Im kalten Zustand fällt einem ein fast schon aufdringlicher süßer Geruch auf. Besonders fallen Aromen von Milchschokolade auf. Diese werden ergänzt durch geröstete Haselnüsse und Backpflaumen.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
As expected, the little cigar starts right Cuban-woody. The wood flavors are complemented by notes of leather. Despite its age it still has some bitter notes and a little citrus-acid, which I would not have expect.

Erwartungsgemäß startet die kleine Zigarre direkt kubanisch-holzig. Ergänzt werden die Holzaromen durch Aromen von Leder. Trotz des Alters verfügt sie noch über gewisse Bitternoten und Zitrussäure, was ich nicht unbedingt erwartet hätte.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
The woody baseflavors were also continued in the middle. There can be still found aromas of leather. These are supplemented here by strong roasted flavors. Overall, the cigar remains spicy and tart.

Die holzigen Grundaromen setzen sich auch in der Mitte fort. Hier finden sich auch weiterhin Aromen von Leder. Ergänzt werden diese hier jedoch durch starke Röstaromen. Insgesamt bleibt die Zigarre würzig-herb.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
Besides the basic woody aromas, the strong roasted flavors from the central area can also be found at the end of the cigar. Here at the end of the cigar has an additional mineral touch.

Neben den holzigen Grundaromen finden sich zum Ende hin ebenfalls die starken Röstaromen aus dem mittleren Bereich wieder. Hier am Ende wirkt die Zigarre aber zusätzlich mineralisch.

Burning, ash / Brandverhalten, Asche
As expected, the cigar burns very well. The rather dark ash is slightly fuzzy, but very stable. The surface has a slightly grainy texture.

Wie erwartet, brennt die Zigarre sehr gut ab. Die eher dunkele Asche ist leicht flockig, jedoch sehr stabil. Die Oberfläche weist eine leicht körnige Struktur auf.

Trinidad - Fundadores (2003)

Optics / Optik:
The cigar has a flawless, colorado colored wrapper. The matte finish is due to age. No question, the elegant cigar looks very tempting.

Die Zigarre verfügt über ein makelloses, coloradofarbenes Deckblatt. Die matte Oberfläche ist dem Alter geschuldet. Dennoch wirkt die elegante Zigarre sehr verführerisch.

Coldsmell / Kaltgeruch:
In the cold, non-inflamed state, the cigar smell quite mild. Lightweight wooden notes mixed with a mild aroma of milk chocolate.

Im kalten, nicht entzündetem Zustand riecht die Zigarre recht mild. Leicht hölzerne Noten mischen sich mit einem milden Aroma nach Milchschokolade.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
The cigar starts as expected, quite mild. From the beginning, slightly salty notes are detected, which I know regularly from Trinidad Fundadores. There is a slight, typical Cuban oak spice. This decrease continuously to the first 4 cm. Light toasty aromas like roasted bread are another facet in the first third.

Die Zigarre startet erwartungsgemäß recht mild. Von Anfang an sind leicht salzige Noten feststellbar, welche ich regelmäßig bei Trinidad-Fundadores erkenne. Dazu gesellt sich eine leichte, typisch kubanische Holznote. Diese nehmen auf den ersten 4 cm kontinuierlich zu. Leichte Röstaromen nach getoastetem Brot bilden eine weitere Facette im ersten Drittel.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
The flavors of the first third are also continued in the second third. Slightly floral notes are added. These reminiscent of fresh hay and wild herbs. Furthermore, a sweet component is added. Very pleasant.

Die Aromen des ersten Drittels setzen sich auch im zweiten Drittel fort. Hier gesellen sich jedoch leicht florale Noten hinzu. Diese erinnern an frisches Heu und Wildkräuter. Weiterhin kommt eine süßliche Komponente hinzu. Sehr angenehm.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
In the last third of the salty impression disappears. The wood flavors are in return, again slightly stronger. The cigar becomes spicy and develops tart flavors.
Toward the end, a light nougat score is determined. This leads to mild cigar to a final climax.

Im letzten Drittel verschwindet der salzige Eindruck. Im Gegenzug dazu nehmen die Holzaromen noch einmal leicht zu. Die Zigarre wird würziger und entwickelt herbe Aromanoten.
Zum Ende hin ist eine leichte Nougatnote feststellbar, welche die milde Zigarre zu einem letzten Höhepunkt führt.

Burning, ash / Abbrand, Asche:
The Fundadores forms a beautiful firecone and burns exemplary. The cementgray ash shows an equally cracked surface. The ash has a good stability, but falls quite abruptly after 3 cm.

Die Fundadores bildet einen schönen Glutkegel aus und brennt vorbildlich ab. Die betongraue Asche zeigt eine gleichmäßig rissige Oberfläche aus. Die Asche weist mit ca. 3 cm eine gute Stabilität auf, fällt dann aber recht unvermittelt.

Partagás - Partagás de Luxe (2002)

Optics:
The cigar is dressed in a dull colorado. This sleek wrapper shows only a slight veining.

Cold smell:
In the foreground a floral aromatic smell of rose and orchid is noticeable. This rather rare feeling confused a little at first. Finally, I expected more flavors of chocolate and hazelnut, which are in place, but only subtly.

1st third:
The Cuban cigar starts typically quite earthy. But instead of woody notes mineral impressions are perceived, that reminds of calcium.

2nd third:
Towards th mids the cigar becomes sweeter. Kind of Vanilla and fine hazelnut chocolate. Furthermore fruity and floral (wildflowers). As a contrast, a slight peat aroma.

3rd third:
At the end of the cigar becomes woody again. But also somewhat smoky. One gets the impression of scorched wood. Finally I find the missing earthy impressions. Cardamom forms a spicy facet.

Strength:
Although the cigar started mild, it developed a typical Partagás strength lager.

Burning / ash:
The medium-gray ash forms a solid cylinder with a cracked, stripy surface.

Optics / Optik:
The bright Colorado wrapper has lost all shine and looks dull and lifeless. The foot is slightly bent.
Die Optik der kleinen Perfecto spricht mich wenig an. Das helle Colorado-Deckblatt hat allen Glanz verloren und sieht stumpf und matt aus. Das Brandende ist leicht gebogen.

Coldsmell / Kaltgeruch:
What is missing in the cigar optics it compensates with a very tempting smell. Noisette and Hazelnut are the sweet fundamentals. Mild and creamy.

Was der Zigarre an Optik fehlt, macht sie mit einem sehr verführerischen Kaltgeruch wieder wett. Haselnuss und Noisette bilden den süßen Grundton. Mild und sahnig.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
Contrary to the impression of mild smell the cigar starts quite spicy and earthy. Together with the dry feeling of the smoke reminds the first third of dusty earth. But slight parsley flavors give a juicy twist.

Entgegen dem milden Geruchseindruck startet die Zigarre recht würzig und erdig. Zusammen mit dem trockenen Eindruck des Rauches erinnert das 1. Drittel an staubige Erde. Leichte Petersilienaromen geben allerdings gleichzeitig einen saftigen Touch.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
The middle, if there is something like a second Third in such a short cigar, is straight woody. Laurel and black tea are the aromatic components.

Die Mitte, wenn man bei einer so kurzen Zigarre überhaupt von so etwas wie einem 2. Drittel reden kann, wirkt holzig. Lorbeer und schwarzer Tee bilden dabei die aromatischen Komponenten.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
Towards the end the smoke was dominated by strong roasted flavors. That reminds of espresso and burnt toast. As in the previous smoke provide aromatic herbs for variety.

Gegen Ende überwiegen kräftige Röstaromen, welche an Espresso und verbrannten Toast erinnern. Wie schon im gesamten vorangegangenen Rauchverlauf sorgen auch am Ende aromatische Kräuter für Abwechslung.

Strength / Stärke:
Despite the age, the small cigar an amazing strength. I would not expect from such an old short filler. I won't imagine what strength the cigar would have been in a fresh state.

Trotz des Alters weist das Zigärrchen eine erstaunliche Stärke auf. Das hätte ich bei einem so alten Shortfiller nicht erwartet. Ich mag mir gar nicht vorstellen, was die Zigarre in frischem Zustand "gekonnt" hätte.

Burning, ash / Abbrand, Asche:
Beautiful, even combustion.
Dark gray ash with a closed surface. Slightly striped with a good stability.

Schöner, gleichmäßiger Abbrand.
Dunkelgraue Asche mit geschlossener Oberfläche. Leicht streifig mit einer guten Stabilität.

Conclusion / Fazit:
An honest short-smoke, that can't hide his Cuban origin. Although the humidity of the cigar was at 75%, a higher humidity would be probably good. I will test myself with one of the remaining sticks.

Ein ehrlicher Kurz-Smoke, der seine kubanische Herkunft wahrlich nicht verstecken kann. Obwohl bereits bei 75% RLF geraucht, täte der Zigarre eine höhere Feuchtigkeit wahrscheinlich gut. Ich werde das mir einem der verbeleibenden Exemplare mal testen.
