Optics:
The cigar is dressed in a dull colorado. This sleek wrapper shows only a slight veining.

Cold smell:
In the foreground a floral aromatic smell of rose and orchid is noticeable. This rather rare feeling confused a little at first. Finally, I expected more flavors of chocolate and hazelnut, which are in place, but only subtly.

1st third:
The Cuban cigar starts typically quite earthy. But instead of woody notes mineral impressions are perceived, that reminds of calcium.

2nd third:
Towards th mids the cigar becomes sweeter. Kind of Vanilla and fine hazelnut chocolate. Furthermore fruity and floral (wildflowers). As a contrast, a slight peat aroma.

3rd third:
At the end of the cigar becomes woody again. But also somewhat smoky. One gets the impression of scorched wood. Finally I find the missing earthy impressions. Cardamom forms a spicy facet.

Strength:
Although the cigar started mild, it developed a typical Partagás strength lager.

Burning / ash:
The medium-gray ash forms a solid cylinder with a cracked, stripy surface.

Quintero - Favoritos (2012)

I admit I'm a fan of Quintero. The Quintero - Brevas is clearly one of my favorite cigars. Although it is not always an optical appealing. From the age of about 7 years, I find it extremely balanced, aromatic and delicious. So I am glad that now a (short) robusto cigar of this brand is available.

Ich gebe zu, ich bin ein Fan von Quintero. Die Quintero - Brevas gehört, wenn auch optisch nicht immer ansprechend, eindeutig zu meinen Lieblingszigarren. Ab einem Alter von 7 Jahren finde ich sie äußerst ausgewogen, aromatisch und lecker. Umso mehr freue ich mich darüber, dass mit der Quintero - Favoritos ein Robustoformat dieser Marke verfügbar ist.

Optics / Optik:
The cigar comes in a classic Colorado. The somewhat ruder wrapper has individual thicker veins. Furthermore, the structure of the second wrapper is partially visible. This underlines the impression. In my opinion, this corresponds to the brand image.

Die Zigarre präsentiert sich in einem klassischen Colorado. Das etwas gröbere Deckblatt weist einzelne dickere Adern auf. Weiterhin drückt sich die Struktur des Umblattes teilweise durch, was den etwas robusten Eindruck unterstreicht. Meiner Meinung nach entspricht das aber dem Markenbild.

Coldsmell / Kaltgeruch
The cold smell is surprisingly mild. I would have expected to find a certain part ammonia in such a fresh cigar. Instead, the cigar smells distinctly of milk chocolate and light roasted flavors. Aromas of fresh sawdust and fresh bark emphasize the positive impression.

Der Kaltgeruch ist überraschend mild. Ich hätte bei einer so frischen Zigarre mit einem gewissen Teil Ammoniak gerechnet. Stattdessen riecht die Zigarre deutlich nach Milchschokolade und leichten Röstaromen. Aromen nach frischen Sägespänen und frischer Rinde unterstreichen den positiven Eindruck.

Smokehistory / Rauchverlauf
Right from the beginning the cigar was quite unbalanced. Aromas of scorched wood and hazelnut shell don't fit at all to the mineral and tart impression on the other side. Additional to that the cigar developed remarkably little smoke.

This impression is also reflected in the further course. Scorched wood, combined with the harsh bitterness of black coffee. An aromatic component is almost completely absent.

Only towards the end, the cigar becomes really delicious. Hazelnut and chestnut flavors come to the fore. Additionally a subtle woodiness with a spicy aromatic background. At the very end a subtle impression of freshness is reminiscent of menthol.

Direkt von Anfang an war die Zigarre recht unausgewogen. Aromen von angesengtem Holz und Haselnussschale passten überhaupt nicht zu dem mineralischen und herben Eindruck auf der anderen Seite. Dazu entwickelt die Zigarre auffallend wenig Rauch.

Dieser Eindruck setzt sich auch im weiteren Verlauf fort. Angesengtes Holz, gepaart mit der herben Bitterkeit von schwarzem Kaffee. Eine aromatische Komponente fehlt fast vollständig.

Erst zum Ende hin wird die Zigarre richtig lecker. Hier treten Haselnuss- und Kastanienaromen in den Vordergrund. Dazu eine dezente Holzigkeit mit einem würzig-aromatischen Hintergrund. Dazu kommt ein dezenter Frischeeindruck, der an Menthol erinnert.

Burning , ash / Brandverhalten, Asche
The draw was remarkably light, which irritated me a little. At a punched cigar (7 mm) I would not have expected. I assumed, therefore, a crack in the wrapper, but could not find something wrong. Only a tiny crack (< 1 mm) I could mark, but that appeared irrelevant. The burning can unfortunately only be described as reluctant. Strong unbalanced fire accompanied the entire course of smoking. This continued even after correction with the lighter again immediately. This resulted in a fairly unattractive ash image. Stained, with a cracked and flaky surface. In the end I discovered that the wrapper had a 2 cm long crack under the Anila. This explains the very light draw, the low volume of smoke and the constant unbalanced burning.

Der Zug war auffallend leicht, was mich etwas irritierte. Bei einer gebohrten Zigarre (7 mm) hätte ich das nicht erwartet. Ich vermutete daher einen Riss im Deckblatt, konnte jedoch keinen Fehler erkennen. Lediglich einen winzigen Riss (< 1 mm) konnte ich ausmachen, der mir jedoch irrelevant erschien. Der Abbrand kann leider nur als widerwillig bezeichnet werden. Starker Schiefbrand begleitete den gesamten Rauchverlauf. Dieser setzte sich auch nach einer Korrektur mit dem Feuerzeug sofort wieder fort. Dadurch bedingt ergab sich ein recht unschönes Aschebild. Fleckig, mit einer rissigen und flockigen Oberfläche. Am Ende stellte sich heraus, dass das Deckblatt unter der Anila einen 2 cm langen Riss aufwies. Das erklärt im Nachhinein den sehr leichten Zug, das geringe Rauchvolumen und den dauernden Schiefbrand.

Note / Anmerkung
Although, due to the (too) late discovered crack in the wrapper, the tasting can't represent the assessment of the new Quintero - Favoritos seriously. Anyway I publish the tasting. After all, it can be an example, like a crack in the wrapper affects the course of smoking a lasting negative.

I'll write another Tasting of the Quintero - Favoritos later on. I am curious what differences a comparison of the two tastings will be disclosed.

Auch wenn, bedingt durch den (zu)spät entdeckten Deckblattriss, das Tasting sicher keine ernstzunehmende Beurteilung der neuen Quintero - Favoritos darstellen kann, veröffentliche ich das Tasting trotzdem. Immerhin kann es als Beispiel dienen, wie ein Riss im Deckblatt den Rauchverlauf nachhaltig negativ beeinflusst.

Ich werde also zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt ein weiteres Tasting zur Quintero - Favoritos schreiben und bin gespannt, was ein Vergleich beider Tastings für Unterschiede offenbart.

This little cigar (and others) was a gift of my friend Trevor for a tasting. Thank you very much. I hope that my impressions are similar to at least some of his.

Die kleine Zigarre (und einige andere) hat mir mein Freund Trevor für ein Tasting überlassen. Herzlichen Dank dafür. Ich hoffe, dass sich meine Eindrücke zumindest ungefähr mit seinen decken.

Optics / Optik:
The very beautiful and even slightly greasy wrapper has only very few veins. The warm Colorado Maduro increases the anticipation of enjoyment.

Das sehr schöne und schon leicht speckige Deckblatt weist nur sehr wenige Adern auf. Das warme Colorado-Maduro steigert die Vorfreude auf den Genuss.

Coldsmell / Kaltgeruch:
The cold smell is surprising floral and sweet. My first impressions were roses and orchids. Somewhat later light flavors appear that remind me of roasted hazelnuts.

Der Kaltgeruch ist überraschend blumig und lieblich. Meine ersten Eindrücke waren Rosen und Orchideen. Erst im Hintergrund tauchen Aromen auf, die mich an geröstete Haselnüsse erinnern.

1st third / 1. Drittel:
The small cigar starts straight aromatic and spicy. In addition to the typical Cuban wooden note (my opinion), I find medium strong roasted aromas and coffee. A sweet-sour fruit notes in the background reminiscent of rhubarb.

Die kleine Zigarre startet direkt aromatisch-würzig. Ich entdecke neben der, wie ich finde, typisch kubanischen Holznote, mittelstarke Röstaromen und Kaffee. Eine süß-säuerliche Fruchtnote im Hintergrund erinnert an Rhabarber.

2nd third / 2. Drittel:
Later on the fruit acid disappears. It is replaced by a spicy-tart oak flavor. The woodsy flavor and the impressions of black coffee are retained.

Im weiteren Verlauf verschwindet die Fruchtsäure. Sie wird durch ein würzig-herbes Eichenaroma ersetzt. Das holzige Aroma und der Eindruck von schwarzem Kaffee bleiben erhalten.

3rd third / 3. Drittel:
To the end rather floral aromas comes into the foreground. The circle to the coldsmell is completed. The main impression is formed by sweet almond and baked plum. Oak and herbs to form the flavors in the background.
A successful conclusion to a short cigar.

Zum Ende treten dann eher blumige Aromen in den Vordergrund. So schließt sich der Kreis zum Kaltgeruch. Den Haupteindruck bilden süßes Mandelaroma und Backpflaume. Eiche und Kräuter bilden dazu die Hintergrundaromen.
Ein gelungener Abschluss für eine (zu) kurze Zigarre.

Burning, ash / Abbrand, Asche:
The concrete-gray ash has good stability. A beautiful structure and a finely cracked surface completes the positive impression.
The burning is very good.

Die betongraue Asche weist eine gute Stabilität auf. Eine schöne Struktur und eine fein rissige Oberfläche runden das positive Bild ab.
Der Abbrand ist sehr gut.
