The Doublecut (cigar cutter)

Auch in deutscher Sprache

After I have already tested the cigar knife from Victorinox with a Hoyo-mod from CCW (also as Partagás-mod), today it will be much more exclusive: I test the cigar knife from Ralf Buchinger, aka Mr. Doublecut: The Doublecut

If you take The Doublecut in your hand for the first time, you will immediately notice the solid and robust construction. This cutter is not a lightweight, but looks like it was milled from a block, which actually applies to the housing. The also very massive blade is of course handmade and meets the very highest standards.

The Doublecut, which is made in Germany, is manufactured in different versions according to the customer's wishes. For the case, you can choose between copper, bonze and titanium. For the decorative cover and other features, on the other hand, various individual customer wishes can be implemented. In addition to various woods and acrylic variants, horn, mother-of-pearl or carbon are also possible, as shown here.
The centerpiece, the 7 cm long blade, is available in two versions: a standard blade made of high-quality knife steel CPM-D2 and a blade hand-forged in the Netherlands from Damascus steel. All blades are hardened to a practical 61 HRC.
As a special gimmick, a cigar model is attached to the end of the blade, which together with the gimping on the back of the blade gives the impression of a burning cigar with smoke rising from it.
Fully opened, The Doublecut is 17 cm long and its weight of about 185 g (bronze and copper, titanium 140 g) makes it feel full and easy to control in the hand.

Unlike other folding manufacture knives with cigar cutter, which are often only good as deco for Instagram photos, the Doublecut is actually a full-fledged and excellent cutting cigar cutter. The two hole openings allow cigars from ring gauge 36 up to a generous 58 to be opened perfectly. With a little practice, however, other formats can also be opened and even pyramids are no problem, provided you cut twice. This is also a form of double cut. The blade is sharpened on only one side, ensuring that the sensitive wrapper leaf of a high-quality cigar is not damaged, thus creating the best conditions for perfect smoking enjoyment.

For the sake of completeness, I would like to mention that The Doublecut also cuts an excellent figure as a sturdy hunting knife.

The Doublecut is manufactured by Midgards-Messer from Hilzingen-Binningen (Germany), in whose store The Doublecut can also be ordered and with whom I have no business connection.

The knives shown were lent to me by Ralf Buchinger for the test. The front knife with the blade marking "RB 19/020" comes from the production of Ralf Buchinger, the remaining three from Midgards knives.
